⭐ 🤔 Perhaps the most surprising takeaway from attending Money 20/20 was witnessing firsthand the growing irrelevance of traditional "big players". As I explored the content and interacted with exhibitors, it became clear that startups and fintechs are disrupting the market in ways that legacy institutions simply can’t match. The old guard—banks and financial giants that once held control—are now struggling to keep pace with the agile innovators who can move faster, experiment more freely, and deliver superior experiences. This was reflected in the exhibitors, speakers and events (in and outside of the conference). The shift is undeniable, and it's exciting to see how emerging players are reshaping the future of payments. As usual, the best part of a conference is seeing friends, old and new! That's a wrap for Money2020! What an inspiring few days filled with insights and meaningful connections. The highlights were, as always, reconnecting with former colleagues, partners, clients, and industry experts—and finally meeting so many in person for the first time. Here are some key themes that emerged: 🤑 The push for interoperability in digital wallets. 🤑 Growing adoption of FedNow/RtP by U.S. consumers and banks, and multinational merchant interest in global real-time payments. 🤑 The CFPB's 1033 ruling and its impact on banks and fintechs. 🤑 Stablecoins. Also, the ongoing debate over whether non-banks will be allowed to issue them, and if so, what regulatory oversight will look like. One of the most exciting discussions centered around agentic AI with the power of attorney to conduct financial transactions autonomously. Imagine agents that think, reason, and act on our behalf in real time. For example: "I want to travel to NYC over the Christmas holiday but can only spend up to $300 on a flight. If you find a flight between now and the end of November, go ahead and book it using my payment info." I'm sure we'll see a lot more agentic use cases next year. #money2020 #fintech #payments
