The last 4 years have been brutal. A lot of developers engineers architects are sidelined with projects that aren’t feasible with inflationary cost diminishing the amount of new construction projects. Obviously there’s ways to get creative, and plenty of high cash flow projects that will continue. Dropping rates will lower the burden of carrying higher material cost. However, there’s no denying we’re in between a rock & hard place right now.

Construction is more than just projects. It's about the people involved. It starts with a dream. Architects draw the vision. Engineers make sure it stands strong. Contractors and subcontractors turn plans into reality. Every person matters. Together, we create more than buildings. We build communities. Places where people live, work, eat, and play. That's the heart of what we do. Let's always remember that. #saltcm #construction #commercial

A correctly designed and engineered building will mean the difference between a sturdy building and a condemned one. General contractors know enough engineering to design many projects, and know enough to bring in architects or engineers if the project gets too complicated.

Architects Deserve the Glory: Challenging the Engineer-Centric Mindset in Construction As an architect, I'm deeply troubled by the persistent misconception that our role is limited to design development, while engineers reign supreme in the realm of implementation. This narrow perspective fails to grasp the true breadth and importance of the architect's responsibilities in construction projects. Architects are not merely designers; we are the forefront of any construction endeavor, tasked with the critical responsibility of managing and overseeing the entire construction process on-site. It is our duty to ensure that project specifications and quality standards are meticulously met, collaborating closely with a wide range of professionals, including engineers. Yet, often time, we find ourselves relegated to the sidelines, our expertise and capabilities undervalued and underutilized. Engineers, so often accustomed to the "normal settings," seem to forget that the architect's field is a broad one, encompassing not just design, but also the structural aspects of buildings. It's time to challenge this engineer-centric mindset and demand the recognition that architects deserve. We are not mere drafters; we are highly trained professionals with a deep understanding of construction processes, materials, and techniques. Our ability to enhance the structural quality of a project is a crucial part of our skillset, one that must be embraced and leveraged for the success of any construction endeavor. The alarming trend of diminishing architect involvement in projects is a concerning one, as it limits the understanding of our true role and value. We are not passive participants; we are active leaders, responsible for coordinating the efforts of all stakeholders and ensuring the seamless execution of the project. Engineers must recognize the architect as a general supervisor, an equal partner whose expertise and oversight are essential to the success of any construction project. Only then can we truly unlock the full potential of the built environment and deliver projects that not only meet, but exceed, the expectations of our clients and communities. It's time for architects to reclaim our rightful place at the forefront of construction projects. Let's come together, architects and engineers alike, and redefine the way we collaborate, respecting each other's strengths and working in harmony to create structures that stand the test of time. The future of the construction industry depends on it.
