Great session yesterday at the Wind Energy Ireland #WEIoffshore (with a majority-female panel 🥳) on what the next 12 months holds for offshore renewables. Answer: a lot. The Future Framework for Offshore Renewables launched two days ago, DMAP2 is on the way, and Ireland’s biggest ever offshore wind consent applications will be going in soon. It’s an exciting year for offshore in Ireland.

Cornwall Insight responds to record breaking CfD auction results: The government has today unveiled the results of its Sixth Contracts for Difference (CfD) auction (AR6), with 131 projects securing 9.6GW of renewable capacity. A substantial increase from the 3.7GW secured at last year's auction. Today's results are reflective of both the record high budget that was set at £1.56bn (2011-12 money), but also the rising cost of renewables projects over the past three years. The UK offshore wind supply chain industry remains confident despite challenging times. In a recent survey by ORE Catapult, 80% of businesses from the offshore renewables industry stated that they expect to increase their offshore wind workforce within the next one to three years. #offshorewind #supplychain https://lnkd.in/ed_T2pPZ

⚡️Today, the UK took one step closer to reaching the goal of Clean Power by 2030, with over 9.6 GW of renewable capacity awarded contracts in Allocation Road 6 #AR6 And of the 115 successful onshore and solar projects, five were down to the hard work and determination of my colleagues at #TeamRWE - congratulations! For offshore, following AR5, as the saying goes: ‘Things Can Only Get Better’ - we saw two new offshore wind projects comprising just under 3.4 GW win contracts. Plus 1.6 GW of ‘permitted reduction’ projects rebidding into the auction, having previously won contracts in AR4. Looking forward to next year’s AR7: can things get even better? The answer is yes. Maybe: notably for offshore, today’s auction procured around 35% of the total eligible pipeline of new offshore projects. We need to massively step up the pace if we want quadruple offshore capacity by 2030. And following the recent lifting of the de-facto ban, hopefully we’ll see more onshore wind projects in England coming forward to compete. A project pipeline primed to burst! Record #Renewables results as 131 #CleanEnergy projects push on to power British homes. The current crop of developments, backed by a 50% increase in funding, are expected to generate enough power for 11m homes with 2 of them (Hornsea 3 & 4) slated to be the biggest #OffShoreWind farm in all of Europe. The previous round of developments under The Conservative Party government only yielded 92 contracts, none of them for offshore wind farms. The current pipeline of projects also includes: 1. The largest floating offshore wind project in the world to reach market, Green Volt, which is double the size of Europe’s total installed floating offshore wind capacity 2. 6 new tidal projects, building on the UK’s world leading position, with just under half of the world’s operational tidal stream capacity being situated in UK waters 3. A combined 115 solar and onshore wind projects, which is more than the total number of projects delivered in the last auction round The UK currently aims to become #EnergyIndependent, #Decarbonise and become a clean energy leader by 2030 with Low Carbon Contracts Company CEO, Neil McDermott, saying: "We are delighted with the outcome of Allocation Round 6 (AR6) which has awarded contracts to the largest number of projects ever.... The success of this allocation round not only boosts our ability to decarbonise the economy and enhance energy security, but also unlocks exciting new opportunities for innovation and growth. We look forward to working closely with our new generators to deliver these projects, accelerating the delivery of net zero and a sustainable, low-carbon future." It's a superb step forward on the UK's #NetZeroJourney with huge potential benefits for our bills, #EnergySecurity and #Environment.
