It's been a little over a week since I invested the time to go check out REConvene hosted by Moses Kagan, Simran Kagan, and their amazing team. I always give some time to reflect and process and since the genesis came from Twitter, here are my thoughts: 1️⃣ - As far as "unconferences" go - this has easily been one of the best I've ever attended. Being in the MF space and medical device space prior, I've been to more than my share of "industry" conferences at big convention centers with suits, and speed networking and all that crap and this is definitely not that. 2️⃣ - It's more of a well-curated low-key experience with intentional space for deep connections, inspirational ideas, and a chance to get outside your comfort zone. 3️⃣ - The variety of attendees at all stages of the game (and in different spaces) made for fun conversations and the ability to both give and share experiences for those who may be earlier on in their journey, and the opportunity to learn from those who are also farther along their path than you may be as well. 4️⃣ - The openness and honesty among the speakers was great. Those are the conversations I'm used to and enjoy in my professional circle, but in most public venues the quiet part never gets said out loud. (Although it's the most useful for those who are on that path) I always find that when I take the time to invest, experiences like these leave me recharged and reaffirm my focus and mission. I also always make it a point to get at least 1 thing that will change my business and speed up my evolution and I received that in spades. Hat tip to Moses Kagan for a well-executed event, and to all of my new REConvene friends. PS - Artem Tepler - You would have enjoyed this my friend....

Hands up if you're one of the 50% of people who hates conferences. I reckon it comes down to your *version... Version 1: Introversion (shudder at the thought) Version 2: Extroversion (live for it) Version 3: Ambiversion (love them half the time, but also lol at this term) Marketers are going to skew the data, though. Not only due to personality but also given the forces pushing continuous improvement of operations and output. Particularly in a climate where eyes are squarely on ROI. It's good timing and sense then that Mutinex are hosting their first ever conference. And from what I hear, the format caters kindly to all *versions of senior marketers, although tickets are by application only... (!) What I'm really loving is how matter of fact the session topics are, whilst the line up is ridiculous with the likes of Don Meij of Dominos, Angela Greenwood of Youi, Charlie Gearside of Euc. and Brent Smart of Telstra... among heaps more. Henry, Matt, Mat, Mark, William -- you *version 1, 2 or 3? FWIW, I'm V2 at the moment. But have been both V1 and V3 in the past..! Link to ticket application in comments!

#1 biggest mistake events are making: (and what to do instead) Make attendees endure a marathon of registration Q's. Unless you are intent on turning them away! Optimize registration with these 3 steps: 1. Simplify: Only ask for essential information. Name, email, few specifics, payment. Streamline sign-up. Boost completion rates. 2. Use smart tech: Select an intuitive registration system. Automate additional questions post-registration. Show attendees personalized value for answering. 3. Personalize the Experience: Immediately tailor the attendee journey. Recommend sessions, link people, modify schedules. Make each participant feel unique. Enhance engagement. Minimize hassle. Boost conversion, community, enjoyment. Easy does it! P.S. Longest registration process you have seen? P.P.S. Will be showcasing at Event Tech Live! May 1st and 2nd. Vegas. Reach out if you'll be there!

What speakers think will get them to the top of their industry: - a flashy demo reel - endless amounts of talk options and topics - only taking paid gigs - being selective about who they network with - saying yes to every gig that comes your way What actually gets speakers to the top of the industry: - a demo reel that shows an accurate representation of what it’s like to work with you - finding their niche - getting creative with value if they can’t outright “pay” you to get on stage at their event - expanding your network, referring other speakers, finding ways to serve your people - walking away from gigs that don’t match your message or your audience — Want to learn more about becoming a top of the industry speaker? Hi, I’m Grant. A former professional Speaker and the founder of The Speaker Lab. We help speakers get booked and paid to speak. Follow along to learn more. 👋

Remember how nervous I was for my first global conference? Well.. everyone was so supportive that I figured I'd give back with a few conclusions that might help others as well: 1. The booth dilemma: We decided to not invest in a booth and instead walk the floor and pitch relevant people. Best decision ever. ROI wise, value for money and the fact we didn't need to man a booth that's only visited by swag hungry folks. 2. FOMO: Cocktail nights and happy hours might be fun but for us they didn't attract the ICPs and just took energy. These conference days are long and require a LOT of energy. So forget FOMO, if your clients aren't there - go to bed ;) 3. Say hi: People are there to connect and interact - if you have a polite ice breaker - approaching people is super common. But yeah, it's still scary :) 4. Mtgs: Conferences are SUPER hectic. Fly out with as many pre booked meetings as possible to give you an anchor and some peace of mind. Anyone have other tips? You know.. for next time! #snowflakesummit #founderjourney
