One of my Favourite Quotes in the construction industry and as a Quantity Surveyor. 'He must quote high enough to make profit and low enough to win the contract' It is referring to the delicate balance that a Quantity Surveyor must strike when preparing a tender bid for a construction project. The quote means that the contractor must: - Quote high enough to ensure a reasonable profit margin (i.e., to cover costs, overheads, and a reasonable return on investment) - Quote low enough to be competitive and increase the chances of winning the contract (i.e., to be attractive to the client and beat out rival bidders) In other words, the QS must carefully calculate the costs, risks, and opportunities to arrive at a tender price that balances profitability with competitiveness. This requires a deep understanding of the project requirements, market conditions, and the client's expectations. If the quote is too high, the contractor risks losing the bid. If it's too low, they risk reducing their profit margins or even incurring losses. The sweet spot is finding a price that is both profitable and competitive, which requires a skilled and experienced QS. #20dayslinkedinchallengewiththeproq #connectwithcreators #buildrelationships #quantitysurveying #constructionindustry

One of the most fatal errors a Quantity Surveyor can commit in the preparation of a bill of quantities is forgetting an item of work. Forgetting an item can cause great havoc to the actualization of the project objectives, ranging from cost overruns, delays in completion time, and expensive claims by the contractor to project abandonment. As a result of this, the quantity surveyor must pay keen attention to details while discharging his duties at the pre-contract stage in the preparation of the bill of quantities. It is for this reason that while performing measurements (taking off) of quantities for the items of work, a taking-off list is one of the first things a QS must prepare after careful study of the drawings and reading of the specification provided by Architect and Engineers. Nevertheless, "Man may falter, but God's perfection remains unwavering." Quantity Surveyors, I would love to know the strategies you use to ensure you do not miss an item of work while preparing the bill of quantities. And also, what's the remedial action you took in case such happened? #Construction #Quantitysurveying #Costmanagement #Humanerrors. #Projectmanagement
