Music has the power to completely change our mood. And our workout. Our Shoreditch PT Katie best describes it in this video. Studies have shown that loud, overbearing music (who hasn’t gone into a gym with banging techno and house playing) during exercise can cause anxiety and increase muscle tension, making it harder to focus and relax. Research published in The Journal of Sports Sciences found that high-volume music can elevate heart rates and cortisol levels, potentially leading to increased stress during workouts [Terry et al., 2012]. On the other hand, studies indicate that calmer music can reduce perceived exertion and improve workout performance by creating a more enjoyable atmosphere [Karageorghis & Priest, 2012]. So we opted for a calming yet fabulous approach at Angel: chilled vibes and 80s ballads. Learn more about the impact of music on exercise in our latest blog post https://lnkd.in/ezAe_WwS.

Music isn’t just for the ears—it’s a powerful tool for the body and mind. ✔️ Studies reveal that music elevates athletic performance by regulating emotions, increasing focus, and delaying fatigue during workouts. ✔️ Athletes use pre-task music to boost motivation, in-task music to enhance endurance, and post-task music to recover faster and create positive associations with exercise. ✔️ Fast, rhythmic tunes fuel sprint times and heavy lifts, while calming music aids in post-training recovery by syncing heart rates and easing muscle tension. Musical tempo influences people's mood and motivation when doing cardio. In general, faster songs are better. For most people, uptempo music between 120 and 140 BPM is the best motivation booster while doing cardio. If a song is unfamiliar and doesn't have lyrics, it needs to be about 10 BPMs faster to inspire cardio-doers. https://lnkd.in/gMYSUwdJ

Did you know your heartbeat can actually sync with the music you're listening to?🎶 Studies show that the tempo and energy of music can influence your heart rate and even your breathing. When you play fast-paced, upbeat tracks, your heart rate tends to speed up, matching the rhythm of the song. On the other hand, slow, calming music can help lower your heart rate, promoting a sense of relaxation. Why does this happen? It's all due to the autonomic nervous system, which controls functions like your heartbeat and breathing. This is one reason why calming music is used in therapy to reduce stress, while energetic tunes are perfect for workouts, helping to boost adrenaline and motivation. Next time you pick a playlist, think about how it might be influencing your body—it's not just about the mood, but how it harmonizes with your physiology! What type of music gets your heart pumping or helps you unwind? 🎧🕺🏻
