To perform successful live-cell imaging experiments, using the right platform is critical. When choosing an optical microscope for live‐cell imaging, the following 3 variables should be considered: detector sensitivity (signal‐to‐noise ratio), specimen viability, and image-acquisition speed. Methods suitable for live-cell applications enable visualization of the dynamics without causing cell damage, as it can affect the results. #leicamicrosystem #separations #livecellimaging #Microscopy

The emission filter is a critical part of any fluorescence system. Emission filters, and to a lesser extent excitation filters, provide most of the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) enhancement in fluorescence systems. ➡ Learn more about emission filters and their use in both single-point (as in photometry and point-scanning) and imaging (microscopic and macroscopic) applications in our new note: https://bit.ly/4frEmzc. #opticalfilters #emission #emissionfilter

In a recently published study, researchers assessed the automated quantification of photoreceptor density using Heidelberg SPECTRALIS® High Magnification Module (HMM) imaging, comparing eyes with subretinal drusenoid deposits (SDD) and healthy controls. From the results, investigators came to the conclusion that SSD-associated cone loss in intermediate AMD eyes may independently weaken retinal function. Our metalens for multifunctional "Meta-Scope" was published in Small. We demonstrated three magnifications with one single metalens to replace three conventional bulky objective lenses. We also achieved singlet Meta-Scope for simultaneously chiral and achiral imaging. Our multifunctional metasurfaces and meta-scope approaches could boost the applications in biological imaging and machine vision.
