Those who know me are well aware of this: #results and their measurement are essential for me, because they represent not just a destination, but also a new beginning. In fact, setting and reaching goals allows not only for #motivation, but also for continuous improvement, especially if the process is complemented with clear and authentic #feedback.
A conviction that I recently found confirmed in this McKinsey & Company research ➡️ https://lnkd.in/dmKtE-_U
Sharp study. It is also highlighting 2 facts:
No manager is better than a bad one.
Meetings than cannot generate motivating feedback are counterproductive.

Meet Me at Decision Point
Lesson #25: Before It’s Performance, it’s a Decision to Act.
I won’t. I can’t. It won’t work for me.
I’d be rich if I had a dollar for every time I was approached on a break or after a training session and someone said, “Molly, I love this class, but let me tell you why it won’t work in my environment.”
The McKinsey & Company’s Influence Model reminds me of all the excuses I would hear about why a new behavior or approach won’t work for them. Excuses ranged from a boss who would never go for it to systems and processes that rewarded outdated behaviors. In other words, decisions to act are based on an individual's relationship to current conditions.
Meaning-making.
The bullseye in this model highlights human nature under various conditions. The lack of role modeling, talent development opportunities, and poor systems and processes topped the list of excuses I heard for why a new behavior or approach wouldn’t work.
Individuals often know what to do and feel the new behavior or approach could make a difference. What’s missing is the “I will” decision to act based on environmental conditions. It’s a values calculation for what it means now and in the future—risk or reward.
ACT – Accept, Commit, Trust
Accept – Making decisions based on risk and reward scenarios is human nature. If I say this, then they will___________. We are hardwired to run these risk/reward scenarios through our heads or with a trusted ally.
Commit – Let’s invite conversations that bring these concerns or scenarios to light. The final step in moving toward behavior change is a personal, individualized experience.
Trust— Performance starts here. The conversation most often missing is encouraging others to share their relationship to current conditions and what’s at stake.

I captured this make-you-think insight from today's McKinsey & Company newsletter. The same principles should be evaluated in every aspect of our businesses—be it operations, marketing, or sales.
What distinguishes our approach?
Who benefits most from our unique methods?
Are our marketing, sales, processes, and priorities aligned with our distinctive strengths? Every company has its core revenue drivers that enhance its reputation and pay the bills, sort of a version of the 80/20 rule—other initiatives should not overshadow or distract but complement.
Leaders AND team members should continually reflect: Are we aware/focused on our strengths? Are we utilizing them fully? Are we effectively communicating them? Ensuring these questions are answered as a yes is essential for sustained success.
Interestingly, they hold just as true on a personal level—it’s a testament to the universal nature of these truths.
Staying true to what our purpose is, keeps us strong and what we add naturally aligns.
