With the #SBEP Mediterranean workshop 'The key towards Mediterranean regional Sustainability' at the Metropolitan Expo, Athens, Greece (#Posidonia2024) we open a series of 5 regional initiatives, whose aim is to decline the policy priorities of the local dimension of the Blue economy, having in mind the all European scope of the project. If I should summarise the aim of our event, I would say that this is a mutual meeting, dialogue and knowledge between different actors, all of them having care of the same goal: the sustainabiliy of the MED Sea.

This week Portugal Smart Cities Summit takes place with cities such as Portugal´s Guimarães presenting their climate journey as one of the 100 cities selected for the “Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities” Mission. If you are looking for some pre-reading, take a look at the Aalborg Conditions—a comprehensive set of guidelines developed over the past 30 years as part of the European Sustainable Cities movement. These conditions are a response to global and European agreements and policies, aiming to create a more sustainable and resilient future for our cities. Key Pillars: 🔹 Shared Governance: Fostering inclusive decision-making by bringing together governments, communities, and stakeholders. 🔹 Integrated Finance: Aligning financial systems and investments with sustainable development goals to ensure long-term economic and environmental viability. 🔹 Cohesive Transition: Collaborating across sectors to smoothly transition towards sustainable practices that benefit both people and the planet. As we navigate the challenges of urbanization and climate change, the Aalborg Conditions provide a valuable roadmap for collective action. I invite you to read the document and join the conversation on how we can implement these principles in our own communities. https://lnkd.in/d6t7UUtf #SustainableCities #AalborgConditions #SharedGovernance #IntegratedFinance #CohesiveTransition #ICLEI

🔊 RENEWPORT was in Turin for the Kick-off events of the Green Living Areas Thematic Community on 10th and 11th April 2024. 🔊 19 Thematic Projects from the Interreg EURO-MED Programme, working under the “Green Living Areas” mission, have started their journey to improve the sustainability of the territories and consequently, the quality of life in the EURO-MED region, supporting local and regional authorities and main stakeholders in this transition. RENEWPORT is one of these Thematic Projects, which will not be alone in facing this challenge and will be accompanied by one Mission task force composed by 2 governance projects, supporting them in different dimensions: 1. The Community4Living Areas project – C4LA, will build a strong community among the projects of the mission, facilitating the creation of synergies among their activities and results. 2. The Dialogue4LivingAreas project – D4LA, will amplify the transfer of policies by fostering dialogue among policymakers and public stakeholders The main objective of the event, “What’s new for the Green Living Areas?” was to exchange best practices related to tools, strategies, and policy instruments for promoting greener territories and engaging citizens in the transition. This was the first cross-fertilization and amplification of the Community resonance and the occasion of launching the Institutional Dialogue Process of the Green Living Areas Mission. The event was dedicated mainly to local and regional authorities, public policymakers, civil society, and, generally speaking, actors leading projects to increase climate resilience and sustainability in Mediterranean territories. In this framework RENEWPORT presented the activities, objectives and main results to the Community, thus taking the first step towards long-lasting cooperation. Read more 👇

I'll be in Sydney on Wednesday 18th September presenting our latest research & insight white paper at the NoVacancy Hotel + Accommodation Industry Expo. It's on Regenerative Tourism and is a really exciting and thoughtful piece of work produced by our studio and led by Cristina Guerrero Fernández & Olivia Poushkine. It asks how can we look at travel as a force for good and build out experiential and sustainable approaches to tourism and hospitality developments. "UN Environment research has indicated that the tourism sector’s consumption of key resources – energy, water, land, and materials (such as fossil fuels, minerals, metals, and biomass) – is growing commensurately with its generation of solid waste, sewage, loss of biodiversity, and greenhouse gas emissions. In a ‘business-as-usual’ scenario, tourism would generate through 2050 an increase of 154% in energy consumption, 131% in greenhouse gas emissions,152% in water consumption, and 251% in solid waste disposal." "Our world is finite, and so is tourism."– Jordi Gascón and Ernest Cañadas Knowing all of this, we will posit how we can continue to travel; to experience the best of the world's places, landscapes, ecosystems, and other cultures.
Our Principal and Creative Director, Nic Brunsdon is presenting at the @novacancyexpo this September! Talking all things travel... including sustainable and regenerative frameworks that restore, repair, and enhance natural, cultural and social ecosystems. Come along and say hi Wednesday 18 September at 12:30 at ICC Sydney!

🌍 REWATCH THE ‘WATER&LAND’-SEMINAR: Exploring Living Heritage for a Sustainable Future 💡 The key message: Intangible heritage can and must play a key role in our approach to climate change. 🌿 During the well-attended seminar, CAG colleagues Chantal Bisschop and Laura Danckaert, together with Jet Bakels of Kenniscentrum Immaterieel Erfgoed Nederland (KIEN), presented the first insights from themed years on water management and biodiversity. By revaluing, strengthening and safeguarding traditional techniques and intangible heritage, they contribute to the transition to a climate-robust society. This requires a thoughtful and participatory approach. Water&Land wants to give tradition bearers a stage so that their voices are heard by policymakers and in the public debate, with an emphasis on ecocitizenship and nature-based solutions. 🌏 Chiara Bortolotto, UNESCO Chair in Intangible Cultural Heritage and Sustainable Development (CY Cergy Paris Université), also underlined the growing international attention to the relationship between intangible heritage and sustainable development. She stressed that heritage is no longer seen only as a link to the past, but as a source of knowledge and resilience for the future. This shift, visible in UNESCO discussions, reinforces the role of intangible heritage as a means of ensuring a sustainable future. 📽️ Missed it?
