⛓ On EU Anti-Trafficking Day, we would like to raise awareness of the critical link between children going missing and trafficking. Vulnerable children who go missing are at heightened risk of being targeted by traffickers. This includes children in institutional care, children on the move, children being subjected to online grooming, and those with adverse childhood experiences. ‼ While we welcome the revised Anti-Trafficking Directive, we must underscore the need for more robust child protection systems and improved cooperation across EU Member States. This includes better training and coordination among professionals who interact with children, ensuring they are able to identify and respond to signs of trafficking quickly and effectively. ➡ Prevention is paramount. By strengthening child protection frameworks, we can reduce vulnerabilities and prevent children from going missing, being groomed online, and falling prey to traffickers. #EUAntiTraffickingDay #MissingChildren

Hopeful news for children's online safety! Australia's eSafety Commissioner has issued an ultimatum to the internet industry: develop an enforceable code to protect minors from inappropriate content within six months or face regulatory imposition. This directive, due by October 3, aims to keep children safe from exposure to pornography, suicide themes, and eating disorders. "Kids' exposure to violent and extreme pornography is a major concern for many parents and carers, and they have a key role to play," said Commissioner Julie Inman - Grant. "But it can't all be on them. We also need the industry to play their part by putting in some effective barriers." #esafety #onlinesafety #digitalresponsibility #kidssafety #childprotection #internetsafety #internetsecurity #childsafety #minorprotection #contentmoderation #socialmediasafety #parentalcontrol #Safes

Technology has revolutionised modern life, making tasks more manageable and convenient, from instant communication to accessing a wealth of information with a single click. However, this increased accessibility also poses significant risks, especially for children and young adults. The same platforms that facilitate learning and social connections can also expose them to potential abuse and predation by older males. Online predators exploit the anonymity and reach of the internet to target vulnerable children, often violating their trust and their rights. This dual-edged nature of technology underscores the critical need for increased awareness and stringent safeguards to protect young users from such dangers while ensuring their online experiences remain safe and enriching. According to research conducted by the University of Edinburgh, more than 300 million children across the globe are victims of online sexual exploitation and abuse each year. The article stated that one in nine men in the United States (11%) and 7% of British men (equivalent to a combined total of almost 15.8 million men) admitted to online offending against children at some point. As seen by these statistics, it is often the very adults who should be safeguarding children that abuse and/or exploit them. As we commence Child Protection Week tomorrow, Lawyers against Abuse strongly condemn such behavior and support all efforts being made globally to respond to this crisis. Teenage boys have become the primary target of financial sextortion online. Last year, the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) received over 80,000 reports of online grooming, with more than 20.000 being financial sextortion cases. Despite efforts to raise awareness, reports of this growing trend have more than doubled this year. Bad actors manipulate victims into sending intimate content, then threaten to share it online if they don't get money in exchange. NCMEC President Michelle DeLaune warns of this growing crisis and urges educating children about online safety. If targeted, teens should know how to seek help from the authorities and report to platforms like NCMEC's Take it Down. Research from the Childlight - Global Child Safety Institute at the The University of Edinburgh reveals a harrowing statistic: over 300 million children are victims of online sexual exploitation and abuse each year. One in eight children globally have been subjected to non-consensual taking, sharing, or exposure to sexual images and videos in the past year. The threat is multifaceted and growing. From sextortion to the misuse of artificial intelligence in generating false sexual images, the dangers are evolving and pervasive. We must unite to combat this pandemic and protect millions of children worldwide. Despite parental controls, children can still encounter harmful content, often shared by peers. As Miriam Cates MP poignantly stated, “Your child is only as safe as the least protected child.” Join us in our Safe Screens campaign to learn more and take action: https://lnkd.in/eSRh-hUC

🔎 With the substantial growth in reports of offenders targeting children through different social media platforms, Canadian Centre for Child Protection Inc. has issued a campaign, The Horse, to raise awareness about the dangers of unregulated tech platforms. 💻 An increasing number of children now have their own smart phone. Many see these devices as essential tools for staying connected and ensuring safety. However, these devices can serve as Trojan Horses, offering offenders access to children, even in the privacy of their homes. ❗29% of children have had an adult or someone they did not know send them sexually explicit content online. Most often, they received this content on their own mobile phone (WeProtect Global Alliance, 2021). These disturbing results underline the importance of raising awareness of #onlinechildsexualabuse and strengthening regulations to #protectchildren. 💚 Take part in a short survey and tell us what you think should be done to protect children online: 🔗 link in the comments. #digitalsafety #trojanhorse #endCSAE #endCSAM

1moLet’s just remember that people who publish articles on Foucault aren’t part of a global pedophile cult. Nobody thinks this unless they’re an ignorant dolt with a grade school education or a really stupid cop begging to be sued and humiliated in court.
