The novelty of this study lies in in-depth examination of cutting-edge literature. The oil matrices encompassed in this study are dielectric and heat transfer fluids. The nanofillers encompassed are carbon-based, compounds, metal oxides, non-carbon two-dimensional (2D) materials, hybrid, functionalized, and doped nanoparticles. Moreover, comprehensive table emphasises base oil and nanofiller type, concentration, size, sonication type and time, and key findings. This work provides important insights into the effects of ultrasonication on the performance of oil-based nanofluids, underlying mechanisms, parameter correlations, and equations. Their latest scientific paper explores the properties of nitrogen-containing indolocarbazoles (NICz) and their unique ability to emit light in two different ways simultaneously: biluminescence! New Publication Using CrystalGrower: Rationalising the Influence of Small-Molecule Dopants on Guanine Crystal Morphology, 2024 We are excited to share this latest research on guanine crystal growth, published in Chemistry of Materials! In this study, co-authored by our own Adam Hill, they explored how small-molecule dopants like hypoxanthine and xanthine influence the morphology of guanine crystals (the reflective crystals found in the eyes of scallops and the skin of chameleons)! Using CrystalGrower simulations, they modelled and predicted these dopants shape crystal structures, revealing insights into biomineralisation and material synthesis. This research could help inspire new photonic materials and crystal engineering strategies. I am happy to share our study published in Applied Surface Science last week! Under ion irradiation, germanium undergoes a transformation into highly dense networks of nanoscale pores, the mechanism of which is still under discussion. In this study, using combination of TEM, µRBS, and a Ge-on-Si sample design, we obtained an unprecedented quantification of the structural evolution of the material under self-irradiation. We furthermore suggest micro-explosions as the mechanism leading to the porosity. As a fully inorganic material, Ge with such nanoscale pores is suitable for energy and environmental applications in high-temperature and strong pH environments. https://lnkd.in/dA3k-xhM

I'm excited to share that our paper, "Engineering gold nanoworms with tunable longitudinal plasmon peak in the near infrared and their refractive index sensing properties," has been published in RSC Advances by the Royal Society of Chemistry. In this paper, we explore the plasmonic properties of worm-shaped Au nanoparticles and their promising applications. We demonstrate that the longitudinal plasmon peak of gold nanoworms, which are bent nanorods, can be finely tuned in the near-infrared region.
