Our Chief Executive Vicki Stott FRSA and Director of International and Professional Services Eduardo Ramos have this week spoken at 2024's Going Global conference in Nigeria. Organised by the British Council, this annual forum for leaders in international education took place in the Nigerian capital of Abuja on 26-28 November, and hosted more than 200 participants – including delegates from 16 countries across the region. Speakers included senior leaders in tertiary education, government officials, sector bodies, industry representatives and recent graduates of UK programmes. Vicki joined representatives of West African universities and regional sector bodies to take part in a panel discussion chaired by the Secretary General of The Association of Commonwealth Universities. The discussion explored the collaborative approach to achieving excellence adopted by the processes of quality assurance conducted through The World Bank's Africa Centers of Excellence (ACE) project. The ACE initiative is designed to build the capacity of higher education institutions, with the aim of addressing regional development challenges in West and Central Africa. Our higher institutions should and only be a centre for scholarly pursuits of truth; anything less than this could be termed a displacement of goal. And this truth when mastered permeate all other institutions that makes up the society. But sadly, for our context, in Nigeria, such is not the case most of the time. Our institute of higher education are more into acquisitions of technical jargons and utilitarian skills than they are concerned with intentional pursuit of truth.

BILL FOR THE CREATION OF ABA STATE SCALES FIRST READING*-Hon.Ginger Onwusibe and Hon. Munachim Alozie, Hon. Chris Nkwonta, and Hon. Ifeanyi Ikwechegh The Bill on the creation of Aba State, sponsored by Hon. Ginger Onwusibe and three others, today passed the first reading on the floor of the House of Representatives. This Bill, when passed into law, will increase the total number of states in the South East Region to 6, creating a balance with other Geopolitical zones in Nigeria who has more than 6 states. According to the Bill sponsored by Hon. Ginger Onwusibe, Hon. Munachim Alozie, Hon. Chris Nkwonta, and Hon. Ifeanyi Ikwechegh, the proposed Aba State will comprise 9 Local Government Areas including, Aba North, Aba South, Isiala Ngwa North, Isiala Ngwa South, Obingwa, Osisioma Ngwa, Ugwunagbo, Ukwa East and Ukwa West LGAs. We are on something as trainers. The world needs us and Nigeria awaits a new rebirth. Training, learning and development can enhance manpower development and improve productivity. In this current situation that Nigeria has found herself, equipping manpower with adequate skills needed to thrive in the new world of work can never be downplayed. I call on my connections, competitors, collaborators and bystanders to be a part of this. We need each other to have a vibrant economy. Learning is a gateway to growth.
