📣 Early stage investment forms a critical component of the journey for many startup founders and innovation driven businesses. Yet participation in angel investing remains relatively low in Western Australia compared to other regions. Curtin University has developed the Curtin Invest Angel Syndicate to address this problem, providing a mechanism for the founders supported through their Entrepreneur pipeline to access capital from angel investors drawn from the Curtin community, and for prospective investors to easily access and participate in investment opportunities emerging from this pipeline. The Curtin Innovation and Entrepreneurship team enables a strong pipeline of deal flow with over 100+ startup ideas nurtured each year through their entrepreneur programs Curtin Ignition and Curtin Accelerate. The Curtin Invest Angel Syndicate will focus on investment opportunities emerging from these programs with an initial focus on Curtin’s Accelerate program, which has supported over 60 companies to explore and adopt sustainable, scalable business models to take their innovative product or service to market. Previous cohorts have had the opportunity to learn from high profile individuals such as venture consultant Larry Lopez, Kanopy founder Olivia Humphrey, and angel investor Bill Tai. The 13 start-ups participating in this year program are being led by the Chair of Curtin’s Commercialisation Advisory board, Larry Lopez, a global expert in venture funding and building high growth companies.
