As GenAI ushers Copilots of all forms, promising productivity growth opportunities for everyone. The expectations to work smarter and deliver more in less time would become much more default than a special feature. Would that make the case of 32-hour / 4-day week a more compelling case for organisations to optimize talent cost & work life balance? Or would that throw more opportunities for talent to expand and maximize their opportunity pool? #GenAI #Cpilots #Productivity #worksmart

For #WorkersDay, as #workers around the world take rest, we need to ask ourselves if it is time to rethink our workweek, which has not changed for a century. Is it time for a four-day workweek? If so, what would that look like in practice? My piece below explores the #Belgian and #UK models. The first has opted for compressed work hours, meaning keeping the same total weekly hours (38h) only squeezed into four days, the second has shortened the workweek to 32h and four days. Which one would you reckon has been more successful and led to both more productivity and life-work balance? Find out with details below: https://lnkd.in/dc7-Gk29 #MayDay

Some Wednesdays feel like Mondays, some Thursdays feel like Tuesdays. We have a construct in our head of what a day of the week "feels like" and it's based on the paradigm of the 40-hour workweek. How many of us still practice the 40-hour workweek? Lots of changes have been made to work: hybrid implementations, accessibility, and work/life balance efforts have all changed the way we work. Has it changed your workweek? Is the 40-workweek even still relevant to you?

While a four-day workweek sounds appealing, 10-hour days may not work for every company. Insperity's Niki Jorgensen suggests an alternative: slightly extend daily hours and offer every other Friday off. This approach could give employees more flexibility without the risk of burnout from longer days. #FlexibleWorking #Wellbeing #WorkLifeBalance #HRThatMakesADifference https://lnkd.in/gmDZj3zx

My views when there was a burning question of would you consider a 4-day work week for your company? Could it be revolutionary or just a temporary hype? Proponents claim it to be a game-changer, boosting employee well being and productivity. Opponents worry about the feasibility and long term output. Studies have shown similar or even more productivity can be achieved with a 4-day work week. Lesser work hours make employees to focus more intensely & streamline work processes as their KPIs remains the same. However, not all industries are created equal. Certain roles demand 24/7 operations. At times, even a 5 day work week isn’t enough for projects with tight deadlines. Lesser working hours could lead to workload compression where employees cram the same work into fewer hours - or even end up negating tasks to meet the lesser work hours. So then, is the 4-day work week for you? Truthfully there isn’t a one-size-fits-all answer. It may take a while for this model to reach us, in the meantime you can consider other ways to promote work life balance. Have you considered designating certain days of the week as mandatory work-from-home days?

The debate between a 5-day workweek vs. a 6-day workweek is back in the spotlight. My question to the thought leaders: Why stop at 6? Why not a 7-day workweek? The obvious rebuttal is: productivity suffers. So, here's my next question: What actually determines productivity? 🤔 Is it the number of days worked or the number of working hours? 🕒 Can the nature of the work be another factor? And what about gender? Scientifically, women tend to have lower physical endurance than men. Does that impact work patterns? Let’s not forget cognitive overload, which often doesn’t show up in productivity metrics but can have a huge impact on performance. 🧠 While we regulate working hours, should dividends also be a factor in whether people choose to sacrifice 48–50 days of their lives year? 🤷♂️ We see a significant gap between the dividends of those who own businesses vs. those who manage them. Lastly, age and health are key considerations. Shouldn't they influence whether someone can work faster or slower, and thus affect overall productivity? 🏃♂️💨 So, what’s the ideal number of working days for employees? My take: Anything as long as it doesn’t compromise project timelines, outcomes, or resource investment — and doesn't breed a culture of indiscipline. 🚀 Lastly, 🫵own the work life balance.
