Excited to share KPMG Australia's latest research report, 'The Human Side of Energy Transition'. This comprehensive study puts people at the centre of Australia's energy transformation, highlighting the importance of understanding consumer attitudes, perceptions, and behaviours about the energy transition. The report reveals that while most Australians are aware of key terms like 'renewable', 'clean', and 'sustainable energy', awareness and understanding of the concept of 'energy transition' is low. This shows a clear gap in the average Australian's understanding of the steps, processes, infrastructure, and technology requirements needed to fully transition to renewable, clean, and sustainable energy sources. Our goal is to ensure that as our nation transitions, no one is left behind. We believe that by addressing this disconnect in awareness and understanding, we can bridge the gap and facilitate a human-centred energy transition. #KPMGAustralia #EnergyTransition #Sustainability #RenewableEnergy

Could consumer apathy stall Australia's clean energy goals? 💡 As Australia accelerates its energy transition, engaging consumers to come along on the journey is more important than ever. New research from EY reveals that "unless energy providers can activate a surge in consumer energy solution investment, we’ll miss our opportunity to build a more sustainable, efficient, and cost-effective energy system". At UNSW Digital Grid Futures Institute, we're supporting projects that help empower consumers to actively participate in the energy transition. But how can energy providers bridge the gap and make consumer participation appealing? This EY article outlines 3 focus areas for providers: affordability, access, and appeal. Renewable energy and jobs: Annual review 2024 ◾The 2024 edition of IRENA’s Renewable energy and jobs series discusses deployment and supply chain trends and highlights the comprehensive policy contexts that shape job creation both today and in the future. ◾It reveals that interest in localising supply chains through industrial policy-making continues to grow, owing to the desire to capture more value and create jobs domestically, but also as a result of protectionist sentiments, which have become entangled in growing geopolitical and geoeconomic rivalries. ◾The report also finds that public policies and private sector activities, together with civil society actions, must seek to balance environmental, economic and social sustainability. ◾While markets can be helpful in driving technological change, the global common good is not their primary motivation; therefore, there are trade-offs between an energy transition path that is driven by the pursuit of shareholder profits and one that is inspired by a people- and planet-centric vision. #energyticslimited #renewableenrgy #sustainability #energytransition

Currently, fewer than 0.3% of scenarios analysed meet “just and fair” transition principles, defined by the United Nations as “ensuring that no one is left behind in the transition to low carbon and environmentally sustainable economies and societies”. The report noted that billions of pounds must be invested into the sector in the next six years to achieve these few scenarios. https://lnkd.in/ehh_u2qc What needs to be done in the lead-up to 2030 to ensure that a just and fair transition is achieved? #energy #utilities #energytransition #energyequity

How to finance the energy transition when the risks are unpredictable? Financing the energy transition is one of the key questions on the road to a sustainable energy future. But how can this huge transformation be financed efficiently and in a way that makes economic sense? This is the challenge: investment will only flow if the returns can be clearly calculated. Long-term revenue forecasts are the key!—They provide planning certainty and pave the way for investors. Data-driven models not only provide accurate forecasts, but also reduce uncertainty and maximise efficiency. By making renewable energy predictable, we ensure economic stability and investor confidence. Because only with precise planning and reliable returns can the energy transition be financed in a sustainable way—and that makes sense not only ecologically, but also economically.
