✨ New Week – feeling refreshed and the caffeine has left my system from Inigo's Hackathon ! having had chance to reflect Firstly, what a fantastic event – it was an absolute pleasure to be involved. Lots of great ideas . Huge thanks to everyone Inigo for the invite, especially Team Purple Rain for being so welcoming: Fatima Raja Bradley Simmons Luis Tome Tommy White   Tavis Bancroft Nelly Dalton Hannah Gibb       So, what was my biggest takeaway from the event? Sure, getting hands-on with some of the latest tools and technologies from Azure and Databricks in the AI space was super fun (even with that countdown clock breathing down our neck 🕒). But that’s not what stood out most. What really stuck with me was the reminder that there are different types of innovation: • Market-driven innovation: Listening to user demand and acting on it. • Incremental innovation: Making small improvements over time. • Disruptive innovation: Coming up with game-changing ideas that flip everything on its head. • Innovation born out of Laziness : Adding this one as one as Pretty sure this is always a big driver 🤣 TV Remote , Escalator ?  ....... But what made this hackathon different was how business users and technical people worked side by side, chasing a shared goal. Too often, and I include myself in this, we get distracted by shiny new tools and end up innovating things that no one’s really asking for. That’s not to say it shouldn’t happen – some great innovations were ahead of their time – but if we want our ideas to stick, we need buy-in from the people who’ll use them. Otherwise, we risk becoming the next “great innovation, wrong time” story. To that vain Lets All Start talking 😊 Self Set Challenge for coming weeks Collaboration. Over the next few weeks, I’m challenging myself to speak with as many people as I can across different business units and domains to learn: • What are the top 5 things causing them pain and WHY • What a typical day looks like • How might a different View point help , and is they an idea waiting to be found You never know , May be in dragons den this time next year as there might be a gem of an idea waiting to be uncovered. Feel free to reach out as would be interested to know some of the challenges you face. 4 tips for building your own Hackathon Haven: Set Clear Goals: Establish the goals and parameters of your project early on to maintain focus during the hackathon. Setting defined objectives will aid in task prioritization and efficient time management. Utilize Available Resources: Take advantage of mentors, workshops, and online resources provided by the organizers. Never be afraid to seek assistance or work together with other players to overcome obstacles. Prototype and Iterate: Create a minimum viable product (MVP) as soon as possible, then iterate regularly in response to user input. Focus on functionality over perfection to demonstrate your concept effectively. Practice Effective Time Management: Divide up the work into small, doable portions and use your time well. In order to stay on course and fulfill deadlines, review your work on a regular basis and modify your plan as necessary. How was Neurelo useful in all of this? We utilized tools like Neurelo's Cloud API Platform for Databases to streamline data management. We connected with MongoDB for all our machine learning classifications and analyses. Apart from just that, we never had any trouble with connecting from the databases to the product and fetching the APIs, which ultimately led to saving a lot of our time. Even if we didn't have extensive experience with backend development, it was easy and smooth sailing during the whole understanding and implementation process. We are very grateful to Venus Vavadiya for describing how Neurelo worked and helping us enhance our project. (CZ in com) Echoes from #WebSummit 2024 – what a ride! When 70,000 people gather in one place, you will notice that. Surprisingly, everything ran smoothly – queues kept moving, the program was massive, and something was always happening across 16 stages. But 16 stages also come with challenges (at least for me). I often found myself torn between three interesting talks simultaneously – not an easy decision! First lesson learnt: Find the stage that resonates with you the most, and during “downtime” talks, take a break or chat with random attendees. Networking outside the main buzz can be just as insightful as the talks. Second lesson: The sheer amount of people and information can easily overwhelm you. Grabbing coffee outside the venue might mean taking extra steps, but the chance to pause and process your thoughts is priceless. Plus, some talks are streamed – that’s how you might discover a hidden gem, like the conversation between Sarah Franklin, Lidiane Jones, and Danielle Belton (more on that later). The biggest win? The incredibly open atmosphere for networking. We realized this even before landing, as the plane was packed with WebSummit attendees. Just across the aisle sat Marcel Veselka, who introduced us to Wopee.io – a tool for automated testing (if anyone’s looking for one). Being over three hours in the plane near Hana Fialková and Michal Dvorský means I have a full notebook of notes. For anyone involved in IT – whether you’re a developer, launching a startup, doing marketing, an AI enthusiast, or looking to invest – I highly recommend experiencing WebSummit at least once.
