Flying is a regular part of my job. I’m often on several planes a week, especially in a busy month. However, I still don’t love flying. My need for control kicks into high gear when I’m sitting helpless on a plane. On yesterday’s flight, the flight attendant started by saying, “It’s been a very turbulent day so it’s likely that will continue. We may not be able to offer service.” My anxiety soared (pun intended). I don’t love flying, especially not in turbulence. Throughout the flight, the attendant regularly announced potential turbulence. It became a familiar pattern. My nerves stayed high the entire time. Surprisingly, the turbulence never really materialized. Despite experiencing many turbulent flights this month, this wasn’t one of them. My fears were largely unfounded yet persisted until landing. This experience reminded me of the need for control and how much time we spend trying to control uncontrollable situations. I spent the entire flight worrying about something that never happened and had no ability to control it if it had. Flying is Ruined for Me Forever. Last week, I had the privilege of experiencing one of the coolest adventures of my life: flying from Atlanta to Oakland with Alex Garden to deliver his new L-39. Along the journey, we made stops to meet with customers, partners, and friends across the South and West Coast, and even had the opportunity to connect with another incredible aviation startup, Hangar Direct. We also received outstanding service and support from the teams at BTR Jet Center, Cutter Aviation, Business Jet, Million Air, KaiserAir, Inc., and Atlantic Aviation. At Fyve By, we develop systems for FBOs and MROs, and we believe that the best way to understand our users' needs is to walk in their shoes. This trip offered an amazing chance to do just that. Flying the L-39 drew a lot of attention, and we engaged in genuine conversations with nearly everyone who walked by the jet. These interactions allowed us to speak openly with line crews and FBO leaders about their challenges and goals, creating valuable insights and meaningful connections. The experience was an incredible learning opportunity and highlighted just how powerful business aviation can be for building relationships and gathering insights. While I managed a nice upgrade for the red-eye flight home on Friday night, no amount of legroom or in-flight perks can compare to flying in a fighter jet. I may never view commercial flight the same way again, but I do know one thing—I’ll be chasing that fighter jet experience for the rest of my life. Where's my car? The worst thing after a long flight home is struggling to find your car. I'm tired, usually hungry, and have a bunch of follow-ups to do after a work trip. I think trying to find your car at Phoenix Airport is like playing a game of Whack-o-Mole.. you just keep hitting your car alarm hoping it goes off! Here's my tip: Take a picture of where you parked your car. I can't tell you how much time that has saved me searching for my car. Give me your best airport tips in the comments. The skies were grey, the winds gusty (8Kts). It looked like a "no-fly" day. But then I realized something important: not every day will offer perfect conditions. If I was going to master flying, and ultimately earn my Private Pilot License, I had to learn to navigate the bumps and turbulence. So, we took off. It was bumpy, it was challenging, but it was always under control (not always on the center-line, though). We learned how to navigate the aircraft in various wind conditions—headwinds, tailwinds, and crosswinds. I gained valuable experience using techniques like 'Crabs' and 'Slips' to ensure safe landings even in less-than-ideal situations. We pushed just beyond my comfort zone, right into the heart of my learning zone. As I continued to practice, my takeoffs and landings became smoother, and with each one, my confidence grew. Running a business often feels the same way. There will be "bumpy" days, times when things don’t go smoothly, and challenges will test your resolve. But each time you navigate through those rough patches, sticking the landing, winning the quarter, meeting your goals, your confidence and capability grow. Here’s the key:   - Stay unwavering in your commitment to your goals.   - Anticipate challenges, prepare for them, and meet them head-on.   - Trust in your ability to adapt and stay in control.
