Exploring Targeted Universalism One concept that stands out in our journey towards a more inclusive and equitable society is targeted universalism. This approach goes beyond traditional universal policies by addressing the specific needs of various groups while aiming for universal goals. What is Targeted Universalism? - Targeted universalism means setting universal goals pursued by targeted processes to achieve those goals. Within a targeted universalism framework, universal goals are established for all groups concerned. The strategies developed to achieve those goals are targeted based on how different groups are situated within structures, cultures, and across geographies to obtain the universal goal. (john a. powell - prefers lowercase name) Why It Matters: - Inclusivity: It ensures that everyone, regardless of their starting point, has the opportunity to succeed. - Equity: By focusing on the unique needs of each group, we can address systemic inequities more effectively. - Effectiveness: Tailored approaches often achieve universal outcomes with more than one-size-fits-all solutions. Practical Applications: 1. Education: Implementing targeted support for underrepresented students to ensure they have the resources to achieve educational milestones. 2. Healthcare: Designing healthcare programs that address the specific needs of different communities to improve overall health outcomes. 3. Workplace: Developing diversity and inclusion initiatives that recognize and support various employee groups' unique challenges. Why I'm I'msionate About This: As someone deeply committed to DEIB principles, I see targeted universalism as a powerful tool to bridge gaps and create true inclusivity. It's just about treating everyone equally but giving everyone what they need to succeed. I strive for change in a world where everyone's potential can be realized, regardless of their starting point. We can make universal goals achievable for all. Join Us on the Journey... As we gear up for the Neuroinclusion in Business Conference on March 20th, we’re excited to share our story with you. Neuroinclusion in Business represents a bold vision for the future, and like all great origin stories, ours has a beginning. But our hope is that this journey doesn’t end on March 21st. We know that REAL, lasting change requires a movement, a collective commitment to build neuroinclusive cultures where everyone can thrive. So, as we move forward, we’re taking you behind the scenes to share the blood, sweat, and (hopefully not!) tears that go into making this vision a reality. By committing to the Neuroinclusion Pledge, you’ll have our promise Saphiah and I are here to work as hard as you are, empowering you every step of the way. Because this isn’t a “you” problem, it’s an us movement. Let’s shape the future of inclusion together. 💡 Will you join us?
