Last evening, I had the privilege of attending a CISO Dinner event, surrounded by some of the sharpest minds in cybersecurity. The conversations were nothing short of transformative as we tackled the ever-evolving challenges of protecting our organizations in an increasingly digital world. From discussions on emerging threats to strategies for fostering a culture of security awareness, every interaction was a reminder of the incredible collaboration within our community. One key takeaway: Cybersecurity isn't just a technology issue; it's a leadership issue. As CISOs, we're not just defenders—we're educators, strategists, and enablers of trust within our organizations. I left the evening feeling inspired and grateful for the opportunity to exchange ideas with peers who are equally passionate about making a difference. You will often come at the crossroads, what do you do: * Do you please the board and become likeable, go with the flow? * Do live with the fact that your message get report through another C-suite executive? * Do you challenge certain decisions to make sure that leadership understands the implications of the decisions they are making? 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁'𝘀 𝗶𝘁 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝘃𝗖𝗜𝗦𝗢? 🤔 I'm glad you asked. My career journey has avoided the beaten path, but I've still been able to navigate toward a role that I really dig. I built a presentation to help other folks understand how they can achieve this same goal, if it's a goal that interests them. I shared this presentation at the Central Ohio InfoSec Summit (thanks, Central Ohio ISSA!) earlier this year, and I have plans to share it at both BSides Columbus and BSides Bloomington soon. If you'd like to see the slides, here you go. I think they're a nice takeaway from the talk, but it's the talk itself where I'm really able to go into detail and to answer questions folks might have. I was privileged to present at GreenCircle's cybersecurity roundtable with local industry leaders and experts in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
