Hey guys, Burnell here. It's March 20th and as you can see there is no snow left in the fields. Why is this a concern? There's three reasons or three to my top reasons are #1. This leaves the land prone to wind erosion we usually typically seed. The third week of April is when we start in this neck of the woods. So not having any snow cover from now till then, we still got two or three weeks even if we were to start a week early. So there is an opportunity for this stuff. Once it starts warming up, it's going to start to blow. With the winds that we have. You can see we don't have many trees or hills here. Stop the wind or to slow it down. So a lot of the topsoil will end up plugging surface drains. It will end up in the ditch. And this is the valuable topsoil that's got all the organic matter and all the fun stuff that we can't afford to lose #2 is moisture recharge. So I think what moisture we did get this winter, we've had two or three decent enough snows that have come thawed another one, thawed another one, or melted. So we're ending up, I think we took in a lot of that water, but we still got a lot of areas that need more recharge. So if we've got a month of drying out that topsoil, it's, you know it's not there for the upcoming crop, so we're gonna want to get it covered as fast as possible. And lastly, the third reason is when we got bare soils like this bacon in the sun. That's an opportunity for all sorts of weeds like Kosha, which is early season. One of the first ones out of the ground, they can get the upper jump. Usually we tried. When you know a pre emerge you want to get it on before the weeds are out of the ground, in many cases because they've got to go grow through the herbicide. But when it's already out of the ground like this, it's got a more competition to the crop that we don't want to have to deal with. Sometimes we may have to use something like a hero or a light tillage to help manage some of these weeds that we have trouble or that we struggle with and crops. So those are my top three.
