🆕BLOG👉🏿Close the Gap Campaign on the recent Productivity Commission Review and much needed power shift and systems change ahead of National Close the Gap Day 2024 on 21 March. “When the Close the Gap Campaign advocated for and supported the long-awaited change – culminating in the current 2020 National Agreement – we did so understanding that the intention was to create a stronger focus on human rights, intersectionality, and a holistic systems-lens that elevates First Nations ways of knowing, being, and doing. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples know that systems change is a core component to progressing the socio-economic targets.” #blog #newblog #ClosetheGap #ClosingtheGap #NationalCTGDay2024 #JourneyTogether #SelfDetermination #ProductivityCommission #ACCHO

On November 2007, the General Assembly of the United Nations proclaimed 20 February as World Day of Social Justice! The observance of this day aims to remind us, each year, of the need to build fairer, more equitable societies. There are five main principles of social justice that are paramount to understanding the concept better. Namely, these are access to resources, equity, participation, diversity, and human rights. #humanrights #socialjustice #diversityandinclusion #equity

The project of democracy is figuring out how we live together in a way that promotes fairness, inclusivity, and equality. Each of us has a role in creating this cohesive, just, and flourishing society. In a time of competing visions for our country, my most recent Sojourners article compares Project 2025 to what I believe is a more hopeful alternative - that of the Beloved Community. 🔥 Empowering Indigenous Excellence in Housing! 🏡✊ 🚨 The recent Productivity Commission's review on Closing the Gap has sounded the alarm: It's time for all governments to move from mere commitments to resolute action! Priority Reform 3 demands a radical shift—transforming government and transferring decision-making and funding from government to community. 💣💥The Insanity of doing the same thing and expecting a different result! Continuing to funnel public money through a system that has chronically failed to address National Indigenous Disadvantage is not just a mistake; it's a perpetuation of injustice. It's time for all governments to acknowledge this failure and embrace a bold, transformative approach. 🌪️ Why persist with a broken system? The call for change is not a mere suggestion; it's a demand backed by years of undeniable evidence. The current system has fallen short, and it's time to shatter the status quo. Indigenous communities deserve more than hollow promises; they deserve actionable, impactful change. 💪 The Sector is Ready to Take Accountability! The Community Control sector is not just advocating for change; it's ready to take on accountability. If given the appropriate level of funding and decision-making authority, this sector is poised to drive real progress. It's a call for true self-determination, where communities have the power and resources to shape their destinies. 🌐 Global Support for Change! International agreements such as the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), stress the importance of empowering Indigenous communities. It's time all governments stand in solidarity with these global commitments, ensuring that funding and decision-making power are placed in the hands of those who know their communities best. #MoveFromCommitmentToAction #IndigenousExcellence #HousingRevolution #CloseTheGap #humanrights National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Housing Association (NATSIHA) Rob Macfarlane Tom Slockee Deb Buckskin Skye Thompson Bettina Ugle Benjamin (BJ) Thompson Chris Gray Emma Shumack Productivity Commission Australian Human Rights Commission United Nations Link to UNDRIP- https://lnkd.in/gWeijmv8 Link to Closing the Gap - https://lnkd.in/g2dk_hNR Link to PC Review - https://lnkd.in/gzn98MFk

Happy International Social Justice Day! This year’s theme "Bridging Gaps, Building Alliances" reminds us of the critical importance of collaboration and partnership in tackling the world's challenges. By choosing this theme, the UN is putting emphasis on the importance of collaboration and partnership in addressing the world's challenges. Focusing on fundamental rights, employment opportunities, social protections, and constructive social dialogue is crucial for placing social justice at the forefront. As grave injustices persist, with widespread labor insecurity and high inequality, the World Day of Social Justice stresses the need to build fairer and more equitable societies. Social development and social justice are essential for achieving and maintaining peace and security within and among nations. On this day, let's reaffirm our commitment to promoting social justice, advocating for the rights of all individuals, and working towards a world where everyone can thrive with dignity and equality. #SocialJusticeDay #DecentWork #FairGlobalization #HumanRights #Equality

SAVE THE DATE!!! Not a day goes by without hearing about a new or old "existential challenge" for the future of the European Union: from artificial intelligence to security, from microchip production to climate change, from competitiveness to migration. In this scenario, there is a foundational aspect of European society that we risk losing along the way: social #cohesion and upward social #convergence (i.e. the desired progressive leveling up of social rights standards enjoyed by European citizens). We will discuss this in a webinar we are organizing thanks to the support of the Ministero degli Affari Esteri e della Cooperazione Internazionale In the webinar we'll present the results of our research on #socialindicators in the EU with the ambition to combine innovation, robustness and relevance. Below you will find all the details to participate in the webinar, as well as a link that will allow you to explore the key outcomes of our #research.
Join us for the upcoming online seminar “Tracking the Upward Social Convergence: Sustainable Development and Social Rights in the Future of the European Union" on September 30, 11.00 AM CEST The seminar dives into the results of the research that investigates the evolution of social rights in the EU, highlighting the critical connection between social justice and the green transition. Ahead of United Nations International Day of Social Justice tomorrow commit yourselves to this cause 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐭𝐨𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐝𝐚𝐲. We're reminded of the urgent need to foster fairer, more equitable societies globally. Tomorrow serves as a poignant reminder of our collective responsibility to address systemic issues such as poverty, discrimination, and inequality. The United Nations General Assembly rightly emphasises the indispensable link between social development, justice, peace, and security. 𝐖𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐡𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬, 𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐞 𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐬 𝐞𝐥𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐯𝐞. In 2024, under the theme "𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐆𝐚𝐩𝐬, 𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐀𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬," we are called upon to take action. Here's how we can contribute: 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐞 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬: Educate ourselves and others about social justice issues, including modern slavery. Understand the profound impact of inequality on individuals and communities. 𝐀𝐝𝐯𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞: Raise our voices for policies and practices that promote social justice. Support organisations and initiatives, like Ride For Freedom, dedicated to combating modern slavery and promoting human rights. 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐃𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐮𝐞: Foster conversations with diverse voices. Listen actively, learn from others' experiences, and challenge stereotypes to build understanding and empathy. 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐃𝐢𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐜𝐲: Recognise the importance of international collaboration in achieving social justice. Stand in solidarity with global efforts to combat modern slavery and uphold human rights. 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐭𝐡: Advocate for policies that reduce poverty and inequality, ensuring that no one is left behind in our pursuit of progress. 𝐄𝐦𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐒𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲:Stand with marginalised communities and support movements fighting for justice and equality worldwide. 𝐑𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫, 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐣𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐲 𝐭𝐨𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐬 𝐬𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐠. 🌍 Continuing the Work of Justice and Equality As we approach the upcoming election, it’s vital to remember that our responsibility doesn’t end with casting our votes. Regardless of the outcome, we have essential work to do to create a country and a world that works for all of us. Since 2021, I have been sharing the 4 Disciplines of Ecologically Sound Social Justice, a curriculum designed to provide tools for becoming a cooperative component in the creation of systems that promote equality and justice. This program spans at least 12 months and offers practices that are crucial in the days to come. We must ask ourselves: Are we complacent when events unfold that don’t directly impact us? Are we silent in the face of daily injustices and inequalities? The power to move forward requires us to anchor ourselves in our values and act with integrity. As we embark on this journey, let us keep our goals at the forefront of our minds, hearts and actions, and remain disciplined in our pursuit of the world we envision. Collaboration and commitment are essential to co-creating the change we seek. I invite you to watch this brief overview of the curriculum linked below. Together, let’s engage in this vital work of transformation and support each other in our mission for justice and equity. https://lnkd.in/eUTpHJ5X #SocialJustice #Equality #Collaboration #Leadership #CivicEngagement #4Disciplines #Empowerment #Community

Today is #Juneteenth, a celebration of the emancipation of enslaved people in the U.S and of the significant progress made since then in our communities and workplaces. At the same time, it’s also an opportunity to recognize why the struggle for equality continues and the steps we can take — by reflecting on our collective past and educating ourselves and others — towards a more equitable future. https://lnkd.in/gw8Jr6Vm
