The last Women and Climate event was a Systems thinking workshop. A bit different and with a smaller turnout, which I understand considering systems thinking is something that can be hard to understand and even harder to implement in organisations. But I love how the energy was again there! 💚 Some women have been on every single Women and Climate event so far, which I really really appreciate! 🧠 To describe Systems thinking more simply (and briefly): ✅ holistic thinking, which is good for understanding the "why". It helps us to move from a siloed view, because organisations aren't a closed system with a series of departments and no connection between them or any external entity. ✅ a move from EGO-system to ECO-system thinking. We probably all agree, we need that. Thank you Darija Kuzelj Pavlovic for leading the event and Impact Hub Ljubljana for hosting us again. 𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐓𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐬 𝐂𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐀𝐭 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐭𝐬 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐮𝐦 Earlier this week I had to pleasure to speak on natural capital and biodiversity loss at the Private Markets Capital forum (https://lnkd.in/gPyzT25i). I was very pleased by the high level of interest by the attendees in this critically important topic. More broadly, I was stricken by the prominence of sustainability-related themes, topics, and discussions across the spectrum of private investing issues addressed during the conference. Topics such as diversity and inclusion, climate change, decarbonization, the energy transition, and natural capital weren’t only limited to their own sessions, but organically weaved their way within mainstream investment sessions around private equity, private credit, infrastructure, and real estate among others. During the networking sessions, my conversations with GPs and LPs revealed an encouraging level of awareness as to the importance of these topics for the respective firms and organizations I spoke with. Nonetheless, the private markets industry is still in the early stages of mastering the fusion of sustainability and value creation. For example, on decarbonization, most attendees indicated that their challenge is one of process rather than one of product. This finding affirms the role ESG and sustainability solutions providers can play in bridging the gap between the industry sustainability ambitions and their capabilities to deliver on them. Although the use of the term ESG may have peaked, the social, environmental, and governance forces underpinning the term have not gone away. Instead, these concepts are increasingly coloring the way investors see the world. As someone who always believed in the complete alignment between sustainability and business, such development is truly heart warming. I also would like to take this occasion to commend Institutional Connect for delivering an impeccable event both in terms of the quality of professional insights and for the flawlessness of delivery and organization. In particular, I'd like to thank the team at Institutional Connect for their unwavering commitment to sustainability by actively tracking attendee’ travel-related emissions, donating excess food, initiating a sustainability policy, and by giving a platform for sustainability professionals to engage with systemically important asset owners and managers. #privatemarkets #privateassets #esg #sustainability #sustainablefinance #esginvesting #sustainableinvesting #PE #privatecredits
