Do you ever find yourself struggling to start a conversation at an event? Many entrepreneurs and business owners find small talk to be uncomfortable and often avoid it. Picture this: you’re at a networking event, and the room is buzzing with chatter. You want to join in, but you find yourself holding back, unsure of what to say. Here's an approach you can try… Start with a simple and genuine question or comment about the situation. Research shows that this can lead to deeper and more meaningful conversations. LinkedIn emphasises the importance of body language, including gestures that show attentiveness and open communication. By initiating small talk, you can build the trust needed for more significant business discussions. Remember, everyone is human, and most people appreciate a warm, genuine conversation. Transform your small talk into big opportunities. #NetworkingSkills #SmallTalk #BusinessConnections #EntrepreneurTips #ProfessionalNetworking

Here’s some ideas on how to avoid the pitfalls of networking. These are good for any business owner as well as aspiring entrepreneurs. Great ideas to teach your kids as they prepare for life whether they become entrepreneurs or not! 1. Follow-Up: ◦ After initial networking interactions, promptly send a personalized follow-up message expressing gratitude for the connection. ◦ Reference specific points from your conversation to demonstrate attentiveness and genuine interest. ◦ Keep the communication warm and professional, suggesting potential avenues for collaboration or future meetings. 2. Active Listening: ◦ Focus on the speaker without distractions, maintaining eye contact and open body language to signal attentiveness. ◦ Avoid interrupting and instead, allow the speaker to express their thoughts fully before responding. ◦ Engage in reflective listening by paraphrasing or summarizing the speaker's message to ensure understanding and convey empathy. 3. Embracing Authenticity: ◦ Be genuine in your interactions, expressing your true personality and values rather than adopting a facade. ◦ Share personal anecdotes and experiences that align with your brand and resonate with others. ◦ Prioritize building meaningful connections based on mutual trust and respect, rather than solely focusing on self-promotion. #NetworkingMistakes #AvoidTheTrap 😰

🎉 Excited for your next business meeting but worried about those awkward silences? 😬 👀 Being a confident networker at a meeting can be challenging, but it doesn't have to be! Here are a few tips to make you a confident networker without the awkward pauses: ✅ Body Language and the Handshake: Body Language, Speaks volumes. When you enter a meeting room, you should have a good posture. When greeting people use a firm handshake, not a wimpy one. ✅Prepare Questions Prepare a few open-ended questions: For example: 1) What do you like to do in your spare time? 2) Where do you see our company in the future? 3) What do you enjoy most about your job? ✅Find Common Ground: Try to find some common interests with the person at the meeting. This will help you build rapport rather naturally. Building rapport creates a more concrete relationship. ✅Closing statements are a sure way to end a conversation: If you’re at the end of a conversation here are 3 examples of closing sentences: 1) “I don’t want to take up your time and it’s been a pleasure speaking with you, but I need to be somewhere.” 2)“I would love more info about your project. Can I get your contact details so we can chat over lunch sometime outside of this meeting?” 3) “It’s been a great pleasure speaking with you, Mary. So what do you do? The standard conversation line for most business owners and entrepreneurs… What’s your response when people ask you this Q? Does it take you 30 seconds to provide your response or are you fumbling words in a jumble? Do people understand who you are and what you sell or are they giving that ‘deer in the headlights’ look? 😳 Have you ever been in front of a room of people you know how much you have to offer, but then you freeze and you don’t know how to articulate the words that you practiced in your head 1000 times? 🫠🫣 This used to be me a very long time ago… To shy to speak up, lacking clarity in what I did to help people… I was burning inside knowing I had so much to offer…. So many ways that I could help and support people! But I was just stuck hanging at the back of the room at networking events and couldn’t make my way to the front of the room! How did I get past this and find my confidence? I got super clear on who I am and what I do. I know exactly why people need me and how I can change their lives. It also helps me in these situations to ‘put on my mum voice’ so I can articulate clearly and loudly so even the people up the back can hear me 😂 Do you need help to find your voice? DM with the word ‘clarity’ and I’ll share my secrets with you! #networking #publicspeaking #businessowner #marketing #whatdoyoudo #mumvoice #confidence #clarity
