👟 Kyrie Irving’s First Signature Shoe With Anta Kyrie Irving debuted his first signature shoe with Anta, the Kai 1, during a game against the Brooklyn Nets, showcasing the "Artist on Court" colorway. The design of the Kai 1 shares similarities with Irving's previous Nike signature line, featuring a mid-cut construction, a midfoot strap for lockdown, and his signature logo on the tongue. Nike cut ties with Kyrie in December 2022 under controversial circumstances after comments Kyrie made on social media related to antisemitism. The Anta Kai 1 "Artist on Court" colorway is set to release on March 6, with additional colorways expected in the coming months. Anta is a Chinese sneaker brand - we'll soon see whether their strategy of partnering with someone like Kyrie Irving can help them gain market share. Notably, Klay Thompson of the Golden State Warriors also has a signature sneaker line with Anta. With two of the biggest stars in basketball on their roster, Anta is starting to develop more brand awareness. Covid's first wave, we are are in the lockdown. Thank god for OTT platforms. I got hooked on to The series on "The Last Dance". One of the things that stood out was the Before and after of Nike. Nike was something tiny compared to Reebok, Converse, Adidas, and Puma before they signed Michael Jordan. After signing and after Jordan becoming the greatest ever to have played, Nike was unstoppable for 4 decades almost. Today's post is about On shoes. The Swiss brand that came to the reckoning when Roger Federer moved from Nike to signing up with On (he got an equity stake there). On is on a swan song, unstoppable. The stock price rocketing, sales zooming. Their latest shoe which is a spray on, monolithic awesomeness, has already been raved about by top athletes. Shoes have lately become more about hype, and churning out more street style, collaborating with big brands, and with rappers. But this silent revolution in the technology is a big welcome move. Plus, when you have the ambition to rule the roost (although much distance to cover still for On), you need to drop some exceedingly good designs + ground breaking innovation led technical product. The Samba, one of Adidas’ most iconic and retro styles, is still driving sales after seeing a bubbling up of demand as the world emerged from pandemic. Adidas chief executive Bjørn Gulden recognised a chance with the shoe to exploit a gap in the market and differentiate Adidas’ offering from that of its biggest rival, Nike. The low-profile silhouette and suede accents stood in contrast to Nike’s dominant chunky, leather basketball styles, like the Air Force 1. Adidas, however, didn’t plan to increase production of the shoe until the second half of 2024. He decided Adidas would boost production to millions of units by the end of that year. Collaborations with designers like Grace Wales Bonner and Gucci helped boost the Samba’s cultural credibility while serving as a way for Adidas to introduce new colour combinations that stood out on store shelves. According to Google Trends data, worldwide search interest for the Samba grew steadily over the course of 2023, finally peaking in August 2024. The challenge now is finding new styles to shift consumer attention towards before the silhouette and similar "terrace" styles like the Gazelle and Spezial reaches a point of saturation. On has become increasingly conscious about how they approach brand building and storytelling. Working with Zendaya, On hits a broader segment of pop culture and builds appeal within female audiences. Working with Loewe, On is able to highlight their craftsmanship and associate themselves with luxury fashion. This has worked hand in hand with On's new apparel segment, which is a major focus for the coming year. Releasing apparel gives On the right to play in the broader sportswear and fitness space, expanding their product base and share of wallet.
