We are excited to serve you, Saratoga Springs! We signed our lease and began the planning process over 26 months ago. At times I loathed the wait, but am now realizing that all of the wait was worth it. It provided time to complete Lehi Bakery Main Street construction, plan our operations strategy, and (most importantly) develop our people to set the store up for success. I couldn’t be more proud of our team from top to bottom who all contributed insights, training, and the much needed willingness to do anything and everything outside their formal job descriptions. There dreaded words “that’s not my job” have never been uttered. Our team always does whatever it takes. The proudest part of today is that I get to call my friend, Jeff, the leader and manager of the store. He is a Saratoga Springs resident, and has developed from an entry-level donut fryer into a store manager. The people development process is the reason why this career is starting to feel more and more like a calling. If today’s opening wasn’t enough reason to celebrate and reflect, it is worth mentioning that we also received unanimous final city council approval from Cedar Hills last night for what will become Lehi Bakery #3 this fall. We are excited to watch that construction process, and develop a new group of leaders. With all of the reasons to celebrate, and with life sometimes feeling like it is going 100 miles per hour, I will be taking some time off to dedicate to my family, with limited work requirements. The “dark side” of being an entrepreneur has at times (inexcusably) caused my focus to drift. I struggle with being able to consistently balance work and family life, and sometimes a little detox is in order to recover, recalibrate, and refocus. Had an awesome experience at Nebraska Furniture Mart today. I was so nervous, this was the first time that I have ever gone to buy furniture for a bedroom since losing my vision. Upon entering the store, security quickly assisted me in finding a sales rep. Once I was paired up, they asked me lots of questions to figure out what type of bedroom I envisioned. I then showed him the room dimensions provided by the apartment so we could ensure everything would fit. The goal was to find a new bed, dresser, and nightstand. It wasn't exactly a quick process, even though the sales rep knew kind of what to show me, I had to go explore each item by touch. If I found something I liked, the rep would give me the price and check if it was in stock or not. After some time, I landed on my bedroom options. Now, the fun part. Trying out matrasses. It only took me about 3 tries to land on the one I wanted to buy. Did some information gathering and the rep processed the payment, scheduled shipping, and printed out a confirmation receipt. This is what inclusion looks like, no judgement, no pain, accessibility from start to finish, patient, no pressuring reps, etc. I believe I had the same experience or at least as close to the same experience as any other customer would have had. Let me tell you, this is one of the rare times I get to say that. This store was located in The Colony, Texas. Ready for some good news? For the first time, every state surpassed pre-pandemic business openings! The top five states with the most significant percentage growth in new businesses compared to 2022 were: West Virginia (up 37%) Wyoming (up 35%) Rhode Island (up 35%) Delaware (up 32%) and Idaho (up 29%) Home services showed up in the top five highest growth categories for each of these top states, reflecting the national trend.
