LinkedIn Friends & Network, I have some exciting news to share, but first a little story ... When I was in college, we made a visit to SAP headquarters in Walldorf as part of the MIS class at European Business School. The brochures were silver (‘Functions in Detail’), the #technology was moving to client/server, but my friends and I left with a feeling that SAP was just a tiny bit too traditional for us. Boys and girls, how wrong we were! Many years later, amid an SAP #transformation program (see, there is a magnetic quality to SAP and its #innovation), I kept passing SAP Walldorf on A5 thinking that it would be great to work there - and this became reality in 1998. So began my 26-year career with SAP which brought my family to the US for what was supposed to be a 2-year assignment. Here we are, 22 years later, dual citizens, and deeply rooted in our (still) new home country. Life is never linear. From the early days in Service & Support, my time in Global IT, various #CIO and North America roles to – most recently – leading Customer Advisory in North America, there is one constant that weaves all experiences together: SAP’s people. The friendships and deep connections with colleagues from all parts of the globe, the comradery and trust that is baked into SAP’s #culture are truly remarkable. Some of the most innovative and creative minds walk the halls of SAP offices (and its Teams meetings). Customers solve the most sophisticated business problems with SAP, and it is rewarding to be part of those journeys. Industry-defining leaders like Bill McDermott, Robert Enslin, Jennifer Morgan, Christian Klein and so many more have provided North Stars for strategy, growth, and personal development over all these years - h/t to Lloyd Adams, DJ Paoni, Oliver Bussmann. At some point, however, all journeys come to an end. At the beginning of the year, I decided that it is time to do something very different. I will stay on until beginning of April to help with the transition. More news to share on future plans after a long family and travel break. Don’t touch that dial 😊. In the whirlwind of change that's swept through SAP over the past few months, I've found myself reflecting deeply on the impact it's had on me, personally. Someone recently asked me why these changes have hit me the way they have, and upon reflection, I realized it's because my career has been shaped by incredible individuals who believed in me, taught me, challenged me, and guided me. I wouldn't be the professional I am today without those who supported me and saw something in me when I lacked the ability to see it myself or encompassed the naivety that prohibited me from realizing how much growth I still needed to achieve. Many of these mentors and colleagues have taken different paths, whether it's through early retirement or pursuing new opportunities. Their absence has left a void. A void that has left me feeling the loss of those who mean so much to me, a loss of their influence, and guidance, but mostly, I feel the responsibility to step into the role they once occupied. Amidst this uncertainty, I've come to understand that change isn't just about loss; it's also about growth and evolution. While I may not feel worthy of taking on the mantle of influencer that they once held, I'm committed to embracing the journey ahead and giving this ecosystem everything it has contributed to me over the past 18 years. As SAP welcomes a new generation of talent, I see an opportunity to pay it forward. I'm eager to share my knowledge and experience with anyone who seeks it. Together, we can navigate these changes, learn from one another, and emerge stronger than ever before. Here's to embracing change, seizing opportunities, and continuing to grow, both individually and as an ecosystem.
