||Declining Insect Populations: Pollinators and Foundational species in decline || #anumeenacare The global decline in insect populations poses a significant threat to ecosystems, food security, and biodiversity. Major causes include habitat loss due to deforestation, urbanization, and agriculture; widespread pesticide use, particularly neonicotinoids, which are harmful to pollinators like bees; and climate change, which disrupts insect life cycles and habitats. The effects are profound: disruption of essential ecosystem services like pollination and nutrient cycling, threats to global food security as crop yields decline, and a cascading loss of biodiversity as species that rely on insects for food are impacted. To address this crisis, solutions include habitat restoration, sustainable agriculture practices that reduce pesticide use, and climate change mitigation efforts. These actions are vital for protecting and restoring insect populations, ensuring the health of ecosystems, and safeguarding global food supplies. Coordinated global efforts are needed to implement these solutions effectively. #anumeenacare #nonprofits #community #awareness #explore #facts #knowledge #insects #insectsfacts #insectsoftheworld #safety #decline #species #ngo #volunteer #charity #help #save #protect

Bumblebees Are Disappearing—And the Clock Is Ticking! Bumblebees aren’t just essential to biodiversity—they’re critical to our economy and food security. As pollinators, they support 75% of flowering plants and contribute to the success of global agriculture. But their populations are declining rapidly due to: - Habitat destruction. - Climate change. - Harmful agricultural practices. At AGRO RANGERS, we are restoring degraded land through regenerative agroforestry models and creating pollinator-friendly habitats to ensure a thriving future for bumblebees—and the ecosystems and communities that depend on them. How can you help? Partner with us to align your CSR goals with impactful environmental restoration and safegaurding livelihoods of small and marginal farmers. Please support our mission to protect biodiversity through targeted donations. Together, we can save the buzz—and our planet. "The bees come and get nectar which they use to form the honey, so the trees and bees go hand in hand, without a tree, you can't have a bee" Jacinta Akol, Women Beekeepers spokesperson. This is the mindset we are creating among smallholder farmers in the communities we work. And It goes beyond trees and bees, it is about the interconnectedness of nature and how we must maintain the balance to flourish. Jacinta now understands that her additional income depends on honey production by bees. This realization motivates her to plant more bee-forage trees, thereby contributing to honey production, landscape restoration, climate change mitigation, resilience, and biodiversity conservation. We invite you to donate to our GoFundMe campaign to enable us reach more farmers. Climatic action, my priority Ladies and gentlemen, community leaders, and fellow citizens of Kigezi, Over the past decade, our beloved region has faced the harsh realities of climate change. Rising temperatures, unpredictable seasons, and extreme weather events have become the new norm. We've witnessed devastating landslides, droughts, and floods, which have ravaged our homes, farms, and infrastructure. The effects are evidently seen as : Changing seasons: Our traditional planting and harvesting seasons are no longer reliable. Farmers struggle to adapt, leading to crop failures and food insecurity. Landslides: Heavy rainfall and deforestation have caused numerous landslides, resulting in loss of life, property, and displacement. this happened also happened this year in January 2024. Water scarcity: Droughts have become more frequent, affecting our water sources, livestock, and daily needs. As a concerned citizen, I've been working to mobilize community participation to address these challenges. Here are some initiatives we've undertaken: Awareness campaigns: We've organized workshops, rallies, and community meetings to educate people about climate change, its impacts, and the need for collective action. Sustainable farming practices: We've promoted agroforestry, terracing, and conservation agriculture to reduce soil erosion, improve soil fertility, and enhance resilience. Tree planting: We've launched tree-planting initiatives to restore degraded forests, prevent landslides, and mitigate climate change. Water harvesting and conservation: We've implemented rainwater harvesting systems and promoted efficient water use to reduce scarcity. Together, we can make a difference. Let's continue to raise awareness, adopt sustainable practices, and support each other in the face of climate change. We owe it to ourselves, our children, and future generations to protect our beautiful Kigezi region. #climatechanges #keepourenvironmentgreen #lifeoverland #lifeoverwater #cleanwater #nopoverty

I was born in 1973, so all of this has just been in my lifetime. I also lived through the 80’s farm crises here in America and I’ve seen first hand the ways that society has just ignored the data and the science. When economy of scale was wrongly applied to agriculture and farms and ranches were treated as economic drivers instead of family-run operations that were about feeding local people, the values changed. Small family farms and ranches were forced out by go big or go home and we’ve known for my entire life that wildlife, pollinators, other insects, biodiversity broadly was not only under threat, but was actually being significantly harmed by the industrialized scale approach to agriculture. Yet we did nothing. Now we think precision high-tech approaches will help… the bottom line… the economics and the efficiency… but while we’re facing these extinctions, farmers are getting older, mental health amongst them is getting worse, and yet still you hear the siren song of “efficiency and scale and growth. We have to change how we produce our food and fiber to be biodiversity and wildlife-friendly and regenerative (not industrial) and one of our best ways to start is to also go back more to local and regional markets. Local food by local people to feed local people. It’s not rocket science, it’s a choice. We have to make better choices as society. We can grow our food in less detrimental ways for all life on this planet. It’s about what you value most. What do you value most?

The Vital Role of Bees in Preserving Our World 🐝 Description: Bees are not just buzzing creatures; they are essential contributors to our ecosystem. As pollinators, they play a crucial role in the reproduction of many plants, including crops that provide us with food. Without bees, our agricultural systems would collapse, leading to devastating consequences for biodiversity, food security, and the economy. Saving the bees isn't just about protecting one species; it's about safeguarding the delicate balance of our planet. Join the movement to raise awareness, promote bee-friendly practices, and support initiatives that ensure the survival of these incredible creatures. UK General election 2024 manifesto ... for bugs "The next government must recognise the rapid decline in insects and restore sustainable populations of all invertebrates." Peterborough-based insect conservation charity Buglife has released a general election manifesto for insects. It has outlined the commitments the next UK government must make to restore and ensure sustainable invertebrate populations. Within the manifesto, the charity called for action because "without healthy populations it is impossible to halt nature's decline". Buglife published its Manifesto for Bugs to set out what the world's smallest and most numerous creatures needed from any future government. The charity said: "The next government must recognise the rapid decline in insect abundance, demonstrated by the Bugs Matter monitoring scheme revealing a 64% reduction in UK flying insect numbers in just 18 years." It added that fully resourced delivery plans should be set to meet targets to rapidly address climate change, end sewage pollution and protect 30% of the UK for nature. Buglife also wants political parties to fulfil their promises to end peat use, increase access to nature and restore the health of rivers. As well as achieving existing targets and pledges, it set out requirements and commitments for halting nature loss and reversing invertebrate declines: · reconnect our landscape by filling B-Lines with wildflower-rich stepping-stones · set light pollution reduction targets · strengthen bee-friendly pesticide · dedicate new resources to save our most threatened species · improve planning for invertebrates · lead global action on nature-positive trade · stop the sale of banned toxins for domestic use https://lnkd.in/epQyycbB
