🚨 Important Update: Australia's 3G Network is Shutting Down on 1 September 2024 🚨 If your phone or medical device relies on 3G, it won’t be able to make calls, including emergency calls, after this date. The good news is that most smartphones already work with 4G or 5G, so many people won’t notice a change. Not sure if your device will work? Follow these steps: 1. Check Your Phone: Ensure your device can make calls on 4G or 5G. Text “3G” to 3498 to see if your phone will be impacted by the change. 2. Get Assistance: If you need help, contact your mobile provider or visit the Australian Mobile Telecommunications Association website at www.amta.org.au for guidance. 3. Check Personal Alarms: Personal alarms are vital for safety. Double-check with your provider to make sure your device will still work after the 3G shutdown. You may even be eligible for financial assistance to upgrade through programs like the Commonwealth Home Support Programme. Starting today, 28 October 2024, the 3G network will be switched off across Australia. This means that some older phones—especially 3G models and certain 4G/5G phones bought overseas or from import retailers—will no longer be able to connect to mobile networks or make calls to Triple Zero (000). To stay connected and ensure you can call Triple Zero (000) in an emergency, check if your device meets the new standards. Regular calls may still work on some 3G devices, but they won’t be able to reach Triple Zero (000) or receive Emergency Alert messages. Update your device today to keep your access in emergencies.
