Many of you may not know this about me, but when I was 18 (just started my Freshman year at UW-Stout) I deleted all of my social media. I didn’t redownload Instagram until 3 years later when creating an account for Door Born, my new business at the time. I thought, “I can handle the social media, it’ll be easy.” Boy, was I wrong. Here are some things I’ve learned since 2020 about growing an audience for your business on social media: 1. Attention is currency in today’s economy. If you’re not able to quickly grasp attention and maintain it, you won’t get it. 2. You need to be FOR your customers. Your social media cannot be just about your business, or even worse - just about you. It needs to be about your customers. Make them feel apart of the brand by responding to them, collaborating with them, and posting about them. 3. Consistency is key! You need to be posting as much content as you can crank out. You cannot worry about perfection on every post. By no means am I a pro at social media, but I’m committed to continuing to learn and improve my content and grow Door Born. Comment what you think I’m missing!

📝 This is the (very short) story of how I tried the #influencer’s life for a couple of months. Not many people know about it, but it’s one of the most out-of-comfort-zone things I have ever done in my life. It was March 2020, and I was feeling particularly down. When the pandemic hit, I was in the middle of a gap year – great timing! – with ambitious travel plans that inevitably fell through. 🦠 As I was stuck at home – sad, bored and a bit scared – I realised that one thing was spreading faster than Covid. #FakeNews about current affairs. So I decided to launch an #Instagram profile to explain complex economic concepts in simple terms: from eurobonds to inflation to quantitative easing. In just a couple of weeks, I learned how to edit videos, design graphical layouts, and crack the social media algorithm. 🙅🏼♀️ I was ready, but one (not-too-little) detail was blocking me: I struggled with the idea of putting myself out there and showing my face. As an introverted person, this was way out of my comfort zone. Here, the encouragement of a few friends was crucial. After a couple of sleepless nights, I decided to take the plunge and just go for it. 📊 The profile was a great success, hitting 1000 #followers in the first month. And I was having a lot of fun. Sadly, it only lasted a couple of months: the workload was very intense and incompatible with a full time job (which I found short after). Plus, I really struggled with the dopamine rushes. While short-lived, this experiment left a lasting impact on me. I learned a lot of useful skills, and most importantly, it was one of the first times I really understood that some things are scary only until you do them. 👉🏼 What’s the most out-of-the-comfort-zone thing you have ever done in your life?
