📢 Rising Scholars Conference on Sustainable Finance 2024 The University of Zurich - Department of Finance (UZH) is proud to have hosted the first Rising Scholars Conference in Sustainable Finance. During this full-day event PhD students and postdoctoral scholars presented their research work and interacted with faculty from UZH and other institutions. 👉 Goal: The conference aims to help rising scholars gain research insights, valuable exposure, and potential faculty mentorship that will benefit them for years to come ☝ Format: During three sessions six researchers presented their papers and received feedback from top experts and discussants 💪 Highlight: Keynote Speech by Caroline Flammer (A. Barton Hepburn Professor of Economics at Columbia University) Professor Flammer identified short-term thinking and voluntary disclosure of climate risk exposure as key challenges. Linking executive compensation to environmental and social criteria or long-term incentives could help overcome the former. Due to the lack of mandatory disclosure, companies that do disclose information on their climate risks exposure do so on a voluntary basis. “Voluntary disclosure can disadvantage these companies by revealing short-term vulnerabilities, despite long-term benefits to shareholders. Mandatory disclosure would solve this in.” -Prof. Caroline Flammer A big thank you goes to our keynote speaker, all attendees, and the people behind the scenes who made this event happen, especially to Thea Kolasa, who initiated this conference and brought the following presenters and discussants on stage: Emanuela Benincasa, Aaron Black, Tingyu Yu, Prof. Dr. Kornelia Fabisik, Fulvia Oldrini, Konrad Adler, Florian Perusset, Igli Bajo, Olimpia Carradori, Annette Krauss, Glen Gostlow, Zacharias Sautner 💡 Learn more: https://lnkd.in/etPU3JvT The event is part of our department's Initiative in Sustainable Finance and was facilitated by UZH - Abteilung Gleichstellung und Diversität (AGL). #WeAreDF #ResearchExcellence #FinancialResearch #Innovation #SustainableFinance #RisingScholarsConference #WomenInAcademia

🎊 Humbled by the warm welcome received by the Impact Challenge at the National Library of Australia (NLA) 🇦🇺 From its inception as the Commonwealth Parliamentary Library to today's rich collection of research from around the globe, the NLA contributes to tackling Australia's most pressing questions about the role of technology and the sustainability of science as nationally important to the future of the Australian people. The stats are clear: 💡 𝘕𝘪𝘯𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘦𝘯 𝘈𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘢𝘯𝘴 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘱𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘣𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘶𝘱 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘴𝘤𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘴𝘰𝘭𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘈𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘢’𝘴 𝘣𝘪𝘨𝘨𝘦𝘴𝘵 𝘧𝘶𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘴. 𝘖𝘷𝘦𝘳 90% 𝘣𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘦𝘷𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘥𝘰 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘪𝘵 𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘪𝘦𝘳 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘶𝘮𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘣𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘴𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦. * But there's a silver lining to it. As businesses around the world are starting to rethink their organizational learning journey towards sustainability, institutional investors are also looking for novel ways to engage with businesses with an eye at the future of our society. Building trust in scientific breakthroughs is a fundamental stepping stone towards a more sustainable, investable, diverse, and just world. The Australian market is coming up the learning curve at a fast pace. * Credit to Eleni Sideridis, Managing Director and General Counsel at 3M Australia and New Zealand for her insightful remarks at last year's National Science Week. #australia #innovation #investing

Last week marked the beginning of a strategy development program with the iconic Library Utrecht, a cornerstone institution in our beloved Utrecht and one of the largest in the Netherlands. This collaboration is not just about enhancing the library's offerings but deepening its impact on the community. The S in ESG is fully alive and kicking here. The Library Utrecht is more than a place to borrow books. It also serves as a coach on financial literacy, a center for language learning, and a guide through the complexities of European elections. Its role in enriching lives and creating social impact is undeniable, and we're proud to be a part of it. This year, we're rolling up our sleeves alongside the Library to pinpoint how it can further cement its relevance and significance in people's lives. Through our trend analysis, we've uncovered 5 opportunity spaces poised to leverage the library's services and offerings. For me, libraries are a source of endless inspiration. The collection of books, knowledge, and thinkers in one place creates a powerful environment for continuous learning. I occasionally join the students, find a silent spot, and lose myself in the pages of a book or the latest article I haven’t been able to read yet. Presenting our initial findings to the Library team, in the heart of Utrecht - our "stadsie," was fun. Thanks to René Maas, Norine Terpstra, and Deirdre Carasso for the warm welcome. We are full of anticipation for what the rest of the year holds. #LibraryUtrecht #strategy #impact #Utrecht #Innovation #marketing #merk #brand #ESG #socialimpact TrendsActive #trends #ESG
