📢Check out the latest study in One Health Advances on antimicrobial resistance trends in Enterobacterales isolated from #children, using data from the China Antimicrobial Surveillance Network (CHINET) from 2015-2021. 💻 The study analyzed 81,681 strains, highlighting significant findings such as the high susceptibility of Enterobacterales to amikacin, polymyxin B, and tigecycline. It also showed decreasing trends in carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterales, providing essential insights for improving public health strategies against drug-resistant bacteria. This week is World Antimicrobial Resistance (AMRS) Awareness Week and the theme is “Educate. Advocate. Act now.” The World Health Organization has declared antimicrobial resistance (AMR) to be one of the top global public health threats facing humanity. The Monash Warwick Alliance is committed to tackling this global challenge by investing in ground-breaking interdisciplinary research to tackle AMR. Together we can train a future-ready workforce that can drive the next wave of scientific discoveries and their translation into clinical settings. Professor Greg Challis explained "This programme combines Warwick's expertise in the discovery and development of new antibiotics using cutting edge chemical, structural and synthetic biology techniques with expertise at Monash in a wide range of drug-resistant pathogens and relevant pre-clinical models of infection." Antimicrobial resistance (#AMR) is a global threat to public health worldwide. Since their first introduction in the 1940's, pharmacological #antibiotics saved countless lives. For decades people enjoyed their protection from #InfectiousDiseases that were once deadly. Unfortunately, microbial resistance to these treatments was quick to evolve, and is becoming more and more common over since. The World Health Organization declared the week between the 18th and the 24th of November as #AntimicrobialResistance awareness week in an attempt to raise awareness to the problem and to get governments, research institutes and universities to invest more resources for sustainable solutions. ONI shares the concerns to public health and we are very proud when our products are used to tackle challenges in #microbiology, including such that pose threats to the health of people worldwide. I'm thrilled to share our latest publication: "Extended-spectrum beta-lactamases resistance in Klebsiella pneumoniae in sub-Saharan Africa: a systematic review and meta-analysis"! This study reveals critical insights into the prevalence and trends of extended-spectrum beta-lactamases (ESBL) resistance in Klebsiella pneumoniae, a major public health concern.
