Putting the NHS on the School Curriculum What do you think? This was debated on Good Morning Britain Yesterday after The Times and The Mail ran some pieces over the weekend. (With questionable headlines…) The NHS isn’t in a great state right now and working within a broken system is toxic for both staff and patients. We all want it to be better, because ultimately we’re all going to be patients at some point. My new book goes into why we’re in this position, but it also looks towards solutions. One of those solutions is to empower everyone using the system to understand it better... and one way of doing this is by finding room within the school curriculum to teach children about the NHS. How it works; When it’s better to go to A&E/see a GP/pharmacist/call an ambulance… How to resuscitate someone using CPR… how to deal with minor self limiting illness, and equally how to be aware of red flags and when to seek help… The logistics of this are up for discussion. I’m not a teacher so I don’t know where it would be best placed - whether it’s in PSHE lessons or as a regular enrichment talk, but I do think it’s best delivered by local NHS staff who know how the systems works in their areas. This is a campaign Doctors' Association UK hope to pursue later in the year and your thoughts would be appreciated. Right now - we’re sending every UK MP and every Integrated care board chair a copy of “Why Can’t I See My GP” ahead of a general election to ask our leaders to understand what’s happening in our health service - and to ask them to put general practice and the NHS at the heart of their manifestos. You can write or tweet your MP about this using the link below. You can also buy a copy of the book! (Out in bookshops feb 8) 🙏 #gpcrisis #whycantiseemygp

Don’t forget about the little ones! No, we’re not talking about leprechauns – although that’s fun too! 😂 When completing your MS in Palliative Care (PC), you have a choice of four electives for your coursework. There are five elective categories, or “tracks”, you may choose your electives from: Clinical, Pediatric PC, Administrative, Psychosocial/spiritual, and Thanatology. If you complete all four electives in the same track, you earn a grad certificate in that track, along with your MS. Or, you can choose to pursue just a graduate certificate in one of those tracks! Caring for seriously ill children is a calling – get the skills you need to provide absolutely cutting edge care! Application waiver code available! Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/eT_8kCFn

Who doesn't love a good roadmap? I've been digging into the Patient Provider Roadmap from the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME). Named after Aaron Battle, Patient Advisor, the roadmap provides practical guidance through "Battle Scales" as checkpoints for assessment of patient partnership across the planning, implementation, and assessment stages of CPD. Foundational point: Patients are critical partners. The Roadmap offers an inclusive definition of patients, as people with lived experience (PWLE): "PWLE are outpatients, in-patients being cared for in their homes or through community programs, and residents of long-term care homes who are not terminally ill. PWLE also includes family members, caregivers, and the organizations that are representative of the populations you may be working with." This is packed with practical guidance. If you work with PWLE in education, check it out. #Patients
