I recently published my mobile app for iOS and Android devices! I am really proud of it as I wrote it in difficult circumstances. The app is intended to help people with mental health problems (it's not really a generic mental wellbeing app). The idea is that users log on every day and answer questions about how their day has been - from things like mood and sleep to alcohol/drug abuse, self-harm/suicide thoughts, and diagnosis-specific questions. From this data, the home screen displays charts for the last week or month (you can flip between these options) showing things like sleep patterns, average mood score, days where the user experienced unusual things (e.g. hallucinations or delusions), etc. There are also other features such as communication cards for when the user is struggling to speak, distraction lists, gratitude lists, hospital passport, long-term trend data, medication lists, sober timers, urge timers... If you know anyone who might benefit from this - perhaps for early intervention so they can pick up on if they are dipping, or to show to a doctor or nurse or supportive friend or family member so they can more easily get an overview of the user's mental health, then please share with them. The app is called "My MH Buddy App" and is £4.99 to keep forever (including any updates). I am not sure if it works properly outside of the UK but seems to work within the UK. You can find it on the App Store: https://lnkd.in/e2GEGKVB or on Google Play Store: https://lnkd.in/e92P8brS Please share my post and also if you have any suggestions for how I can get into work in coding (mobile or web development) then please send me a message or reply to this post! I have a portfolio site at https://lnkd.in/ehZH7D73 and I am really looking to work remotely at the moment due to personal circumstances. Thank you and I hope you are all well.

Can self help apps PROMOTE wellbeing or PREVENT illness in young adults? https://buff.ly/4hpWFWU Kirsten Lawson summarises the ECoWeB trial which used self-help apps to promote wellbeing and prevent mental illness in young adults. "The ECoWeB PROMOTE trial found that there was no added benefit of the emotional competence app or the CBT app relative to the self-monitoring app to promote mental wellbeing. However, the ECoWeB PREVENT trial found that a generic CBT self-help app had beneficial protective effects compared with a self-monitoring control app on symptoms of depression, functioning, and quality of life in young people with increased vulnerability for depression." #DigitalHealth #SelfHelp #Apps #MentalHealth #YoungAdults

I can’t emphasize how important it is for you to control your phone, especially notifications. Every notification is literally a mind hijacking attempt. Regardless of the type of notification, it’s something that disrupts our thinking and our flow. Some of them are necessary—but most aren’t. All the native apps will of course try to get as much permission from you as possible, including notifications. Don’t allow this permission freely. Get really strict about which apps need to send you notifications, and when. Take it from a dude who used to give free reign to all apps for notifications. Once I started thinking in a more minimalistic way, it made a huge difference. Running GrapheneOS actually helped with this a lot. But you don’t need GOS to do this and feel the difference. I got some notifications turned on, but most of em are silent. So they still get delivered, but they’re not time-sensitive. They’ll be there when I check my phone next. I don’t need em interrupting whatever I was doing or thinking. TL;DR: Be strict about which notifications you allow, and when. It’ll do wonders for your thinking, productivity, and mental health.
