What’s behind the International Day for Bids and Proposals on 29th September, how did it come about, and who’s it for?   We had the idea for an international day in a team meeting in summer '23 and we looked at each with a collective, “Why not?”   We didn’t have a plan beyond registering the day, but we were convinced it'd be a hit. I’m a believer that if something feels right, then it is right. In fact, the response from people was incredible. So many people shared their journeys into bids and proposals and what the profession meant to them. Messages ranged from emojis to videos. My own journey started in 1994 (I think!) when I was at British Rail Telecoms. I helped them win their first ever non-rail bid and I was hooked!   This year we wanted to do something more ambitious (and coordinated!) That’s why we reached out to Pippa Birch, Tony Birch, Melissa Mae Brown and Steven Coles, to lay on a free-to-attend networking event. I loved how they all leapt at the chance to get involved and really got behind it. As for the day itself on the 29th? I reckon a reflective run followed by watching football.   So, that’s what IDBP24 is about. It’s about celebrating this crazy thing that bid and proposal professionals do. It’s about raising awareness of the contribution we all make. It’s about community and togetherness and people participating however they choose.
