BOEM found no competitive interest and cancelled the proposed GOM Wind 2 Auction. I don’t think the lack of interest in the auction surprised too many people. However, the announcement of the Hecate unsolicited proposal may have surprised a few. It seems to me that Hecate has taken the opportunity to capitalize on the unique planning in the Gulf of Mexico. The Hecate proposal represents acreage in the C and D draft WEAs, areas already deconflicted in the BOEM/NCCOS spatial modeling. Additionally the area is part of the call area that a BOEM EA already analyzed for leasing and site assessment impacts for up to 18 leases. Hecate has shown there is continued developer interest in offshore wind in GOMEX. This proposal is another step to bring offshore wind to the people of the Gulf Coast. It will take continued commitment from developers, government agencies/bodies, economic development organizations, supply chain companies, grid operators, technology companies and all stakeholders to work together to make offshore wind in the Gulf of Mexico a success. #offshorewind

#IndustryNews: The California Energy Commission passed the Strategic Plan for Offshore Wind, which charts a path for the state to achieve its goal of 25 GW of offshore wind energy by 2045 and outlines steps to foster a floating offshore wind industry in California, including port investments, upgraded transmission infrastructure, an improved permitting process, and supply chain and workforce development efforts. In support of these goals, Oceantic Network launched the West Coast Supplier Council in February, then in May, collaborated with the Council to release the Suppliers’ Guide to Success: Smart Scaling for the U.S. West Coast Floating Wind Market. Read the commentary at Sierra, “Offshore Wind Development in the US is Reaching Gale Force,” by Sarah Giltz and Nancy Pyne—August 17, 2024. “The first half of 2024 has proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that offshore wind in the United States is on track to become one of the most critical parts of the nation’s energy supply. With construction and progress on several projects happening this summer, offshore wind is creating thousands of jobs, boosting local economies, and delivering more clean, reliable energy to communities in the United States than ever... After attending two offshore wind conferences earlier this year—the International Partnering Forum in New Orleans and the Pacific Offshore Wind Summit in Sacramento—the two of us are inspired by the progress we’re seeing in project development and construction off our coasts, as well as by the sense of collaboration in the offshore wind community from the local to the national level… Offshore wind is no longer something imagined for the future—it’s happening right now…” Read the full column below and at this link. https://lnkd.in/gHziN9Qf #offshorewind #floatingwind #cleanenergy #renewables #climate #offshorewindca #pacificoffshorewindsummit
