On the back of Floating Wind Days, David Linden, shares the status of global floating offshore wind targets and key takeaways from our recent survey, developed in partnership with Norwegian Offshore Wind and WORLD FORUM OFFSHORE WIND (WFO). The #floatingwind industry generated huge targets and expectations in 2022 and most notably awarding 22.4GW of floating lease capacity. However, the outlook has been challenged, and two years on, it is time to consider how the future of the floating wind industry is now being perceived. Really great to see the launch of the National Biomethane Strategy this week, it has been a long time coming and will be welcomed by many stakeholders across the industry. Agriculture is an important part of our economy, particularly in rural areas, and as a result Ireland is recognised as having one of the largest potentials for biomethane production in Europe per capita. In addition, since biomethane is a renewable energy resource which can be harnessed at home, using it in place of natural gas will reduce our dependence on imports and through doing so improve our security of supply. The plans to upscale biomethane production therefore seem very sensible, well aligned with our existing capabilities and a pragmatic means of enabling farmers to contribute to the decarbonisation of Ireland’s energy system. However, successful implementation will require effective coordination and collaboration of many players – farmers, biomethane producers, transporters, policy makers and end users, and this is expected to present the most significant challenge in achieving the 2030 targets. https://lnkd.in/ecA8RWtb We will be discussing the launch of this strategy alongside other key market developments from the last month, especially in the offshore wind space at our public webinar on the 13th June.
