Payroll: the journey of boring to becoming sexier… When I rejoined Darwinbox six months ago, Gowthami and Samrat gave me a challenge that seemed so simple: make Payroll — yes, Payroll — exciting. We dove deep into the world of Payroll, a realm often overlooked but undeniably critical. The goal was simple: transform a transactional process into a strategic advantage. The business needed a fresh, market-defining approach in a world where 'exciting payroll' sounds like an oxymoron. We wanted to tell the world that an HCM player can do an excellent job at Payroll. But how do you make something operational feel revolutionary? We returned to our customers, conducted extensive research, and found glaring gaps in a 100+ year-old industry. There was (and is) still scope for 1. Ensuring that everything happens online 2. Minimizing human intervention when it comes to numbers 3. Streamline the process in a minimum number of steps Through intense brainstorming with Gowthami and Samrat, we brought Darwinbox Global Payroll with the RIVeR framework to life. We were clear that we no longer try to be everything for everyone. Our positioning? Simple—100% online, streamlined, and audit-friendly. Deel has recently commissioned a report with Forrester, a leading analyst firm, to gain insights into the global payroll industry landscape. The report focuses on the challenges and opportunities that HR and payroll decision makers face when it comes to paying teams around the world.
