🌟 We're proud to showcase the impact of the Applied Data Fellowship on key projects across various sectors! 🌟 One of our amazing fellows, María Gabriela Ayala, has been instrumental in supporting a recent project with the Illinois Power Agency. The IPA has launched the Clean Energy Dashboard at https://lnkd.in/gYw52-q9. The Dashboard website, developed by IPA staff, with support from the Applied Data Fellowship, is designed to track the progress and impact of renewable energy development across Illinois. The Dashboard website tracks renewable energy projects within and outside of the Illinois Renewable Portfolio Standard and serves as an educational tool for stakeholders and policymakers to quickly answer common questions about the growth of renewable energy in Illinois. At the Applied Data Fellowship, we are committed to empowering data professionals to lead, innovate, and make a real-world difference. Exciting times ahead as we continue to support projects that harness the power of data for positive change! #AppliedDataFellowship #DataScience #Innovation #Teamwork #Impact

💡 Funding Opportunity! 💡 Minnesota State Competitiveness Matching Fund Program 2024 Provides matching funds for eligible entities applying for eligible federal funding opportunities requiring a match. The Minnesota State Legislature allocated $100,000,000 for Commerce to award grant funding to eligible Minnesota entities and projects to enhance the likelihood of these entities receiving federal funding awards under the IIJA and IRA programs. Commerce is soliciting proposals from eligible entities applying for federal funding opportunities requiring matching funds, or applying for federal funding opportunities not requiring a match but for which a match would enhance the likelihood of the federal grant being funded. Projects selected for these matching funds must demonstrate that the project will help meet the state's clean energy and energy-related climate goals through renewable energy development, energy conservation, efficiency, or energy-related greenhouse gas reduction benefits. Proposals are due Friday, September 6, 2024. To view this and other funding opportunities please see: Request for Proposals (RFP) / Minnesota Department of Commerce - Business (mn.gov)

! NEWS ! - This summer, Adre completed a research project as part of the Energy Trust of Oregon Fellowship, titled “District Systems for Equity-Centered Development,” and delivered three presentations (Portland, Bend, and online) summarizing the findings. --- District systems basically act as a way to centralize energy, water and waste processes to make them more efficient and, in the case of energy, less reliant on the power grid. --- But the Energy Trust-funded research offered a chance to look at district systems through the lens of practical application. --- The research is "making it much easier for people to come after us who might want to do this, too, and they don't have to start from scratch," Hallová said. Strata Clean Energy commends U.S. Senators Joe Manchin (I-WV) and John Barrasso (R-WY) for their recent introduction of the Energy Permitting Reform Act. This bill represents a bipartisan consensus that the U.S. must begin deploying solutions to increase grid reliability and streamline the permitting process for energy infrastructure projects. The EPRA exemplifies a step forward for the U.S. and the clean energy industry towards meeting not only our growing energy capacity needs but also our clean energy goals. We applaud Senators Manchin and Barrasso for their leadership on this issue and look forward to being a resource as they work to push this legislation across the finish line. #energypermittingreformact2024 #cleanenergy #cleanenergylegislation https://lnkd.in/gcsypRAs

Thrilled that the first paper led by my first U-M PhD student, the stellar Claire McKenna, and with Carina Gronlund, is now out in Resources, Conservation & Recycling. From energy audits, utility bill analysis, thermostat data analysis, and interviews with 51 homeowners in Wayne and Washtenaw Counties, we find: 1. A switch to heat pumps from natural gas will raise energy burdens sharply for all participants. This will be particularly acute for low-income households. This is a function of the cold climate, poor housing stock (more below), and the relative prices of natural gas and electricity. In the figure below, (1) is for standard flat electricity rate and 2022 natural gas cost; and (2) is for standard time-of-use electricity rate and 2022 natural gas cost. Read the article here: https://lnkd.in/gdrAEDkX CRUCIAL POINT: this is not an argument against electrification, which is essential. It is an argument for standards and help to make our housing stock more efficient and for closer scrutiny of utility rates.
