Maritime industries are very resilient to electrification or hydrogen fueling. However I believe short distance services such as ferries or auxiliary machines at harbors such as cranes ,forklifts and in harbour transportation will greatly increase this penetration. The idea is simple;Since it's short distance and the distance traveled is constant the ferry is a very nice base for electrification.

Real connections spark real solutions! Visiting our clients on-site is a game-changer. It lets us truly understand what they need, allowing us to tailor our expertise to help them even better. In the past few weeks, we have visited: 🤝 Oceanco in Zwijndrecht and Alblasserdam, seeing our superyacht projects come to life and learning about future collaborations as a proud co-maker of this superyacht builder. Mariëlle Röttgering Erwin Kooistra Marijn Schilperoort 🤝 ABC Diesel, renowned for manufacturing two-stroke diesel engines in Ghent, showcased their dedication to sustainable manufacturing. It was inspiring to witness our client's efforts firsthand and engage in valuable networking at Anglo Belgian Corporation. Tim Berckmoes 🤝 Flanders Hydraulics is a centre of expertise for research and advice on hydraulic, nautical, sediment-related and hydrological topics. The highlight was getting to take control of the helm in the ship maneuvering simulators. With a virtual journey through the Port of Antwerp, we not only learned a lot but also had a great deal of fun. Katrien Eloot Steven Kaptein 🤝 Flanders Make, a research institute specializing in the make industry, is whom we're currently collaborating with on a project concentrating on waterborne electric energy storage. We're working together to gain a clearer understanding of energy consumption and exploring how battery technology can evolve within operational constraints and charging infrastructure. Clear to say we’re enjoying the engineering challenges this presents and are curious to see what will float the electric boat! Hugo Steep 🤝EDR Antwerp Shipyard. The ship repair yard, including its own dry docks, repair shops, and supply warehouse, is a valuable treasure of maritime history. The revaluation of this place is downright impressive and continues to resonate. It's not every day that one gets to stand on the dock floor next to a majestic container ship, lifted out of its natural habitat. What a fantastic day! Philippe Trouillard Thank you all very much for the warm welcome and the pleasant cooperation. #Maritime #Offshore #BetterTogether #ExpertiseInAction #Multiengineering #Noengineersnofuture

Hot news from Damen Galati Yesterday, we celebrated a pivotal milestone in the shipbuilding with the official start-off-cutting ceremony held at our shipyard. During this event, we began cutting the first metal parts for two new fully electric ferries, ordered by one of the world's largest ferry operators, BC Ferry from Canada. These vessels will be a proud addition to their extensive fleet, with a total of 10 similar ferries crafted exclusively at Galati. While various teams such as sales, planning & design, project management and purchasing have worked tirelessly to reach this start-cutting milestone, this moment that happens on the production floor holds a unique place in the shipbuilding process It's that very first spark that hits the metal plate that starts shaping the material into something that eventually will become a ship. It is that temperature hotter than the surface of the sun that made us witnessed of forging of a dream into tangible reality. Can you envision the pride and joy of our production team as they, armed with immense know-how, construct one of humanity's most complex creations from simple raw materials? “If you want to build a ship, don’t drum up the men to gather wood, divide the work, and give orders. Instead, teach them to yearn for the vast and endless sea.” Antoine de Saint-Exupéry #shipbuilding #sustainability #Damen

🌱 Sustainability in Action at HÜBNER Group🌱 At HÜBNER, we focus not only on innovative solutions but also on sustainable actions. Our latest project demonstrates how we extend the lifespan of railway systems and help conserve resources. In a tailored project for an Italian train operator, HÜBNER Group - After Sales & Service Rail is currently updating UIC-561 compatible gangway halves. These special components, made from a robust aluminum frame and high-quality rubber seals, differ from conventional systems due to their compact size and complex design. Our team in Kassel has developed an innovative, modular repair concept that allows us to selectively refurbish parts in a resource-efficient manner. We only replace the parts that absolutely need to be exchanged, while those still functional remain. After a detailed condition analysis, we closely coordinate the necessary repairs with our customers to offer a customized solution, explains Manuel Kurzrock. Transparent and customer-oriented. This type of refurbishment is a smart alternative to purchasing new equipment, which not only protects the environment but also reduces operating costs. “With the new repair concept for UIC-561-compatible gangways, we have broadened the HÜBNER portfolio even further”, says Sebastian Harz. We at HÜBNER are proud to contribute to sustainability in public transport. #refurbishment #sustainability #publictransport #makingmobilityhappen #unitedbypassion
