#Remembering #Americas #Fallen on our Most Solemn Day, #MemorialDay 2024, #SomeGaveAll and #AllGaveSome, we thank those. #PewFoundation: Some 18mil living US Veterans, 6% of the Adult Population; About 43% -- 7.8mil -- have served in / since the #GulfWarEra; About 30% -- 5.6mil -- served in the #VietnamEra; About 4% -- 767K -- served in the #KoreanEra and the 1950s; Link to Data: https://lnkd.in/e87urmCf. My service was 1967-70. Coming out of HS in 1965, I was a student at the #UniversityOfIllinois in 1967, as the #GlobalWar against "we will bury you" #Marxism, #Socialism & #Communism began to peak in #SoutheastAsia. In my family, when your country goes to war, you go to war. My brother Dick Waltz enlisted #USN out of HS in 1966. I volunteered 1967 #USArmyCounterIntelligence. Some 10.5mil people served in the 1960-75 bracketed dates of the #VietnamEra, some 3.5mil of them actually in #Vietnam, perhaps 1mil of them who actually came under fire in #combat. Of course, 60,000 perished there, giving their lives in the fight against #GlobalCommunism, and countless 1000s others have suffered and died of #PTSD ailments here, two of them good friends of mine here in #Delaware. In 1980, about 18% of #Americans were #USMilitaryVeterans, #Pew reports. Share of women among Veterans will increase from 11% today to about 18% in 25years. 74% of #Vets are #nonHispanic #White, a number that will decline to 63% in that same time, while the number of #Black #Vets will grow from 13% to 15% in that time. Members of #Congress with Military experience has fallen from about 80% in the 1970s to about 17-18% today, one of my long-time colleagues / friends #Delaware's #USSenTomCarper, who's 6 months older than me, also a #Vet. Favorable views of the US Dept of #VeteransAffairs outweigh Unfavorables 2-1, by 58% to 26%, a place where my own experience generally is very good, "exceeding expectations." #PaulaPedene, a #USN Vet in #Phoenix, became a nationally-known #Whistleblower there re: #Corruption in the top leadership jobs at that facility, publishing a book "A Sacred Duty". She's an "Inner-Circle #PRSA Friend," where she leads our Military & Veterans Task Force on which I serve.

Happy Memorial Day! The question is often asked "Should I Thank a Veteran on Memorial Day?". Well, we think it's appropriate to thank a Veteran for their service on any day of the calendar year...however, it is a complex question. It is essential to understand the distinction between these two observances to ensure our gratitude is appropriately directed.
