What's in a word? On Friday morning, I was driving my two boys to school. Knowing that they both had full weekends of competitive sports ahead, I asked each of them what word they wanted to keep in mind as they entered the weekend. My youngest son said #Focus. I asked him, "How will you 'focus' during your upcoming weekend?" He explained that he would concentrate on warming up his arm well, focus on his technical skills within the sport, and, ultimately, have fun. My older son said that his word was #Confidence. This surprised me, as he has only used two words in all the years we have done this exercise: #determination and #perseverance. He explained that he continues to hold these two words but also recognized that, generally, he is more nervous in the first couple of races of a swim meet, which impacts his results. Therefore, he wants to go in with all his training and improve his mental game by welcoming more confidence. Imagining a word and the circumstances surrounding it can be a powerful exercise for improving performance, as it brings awareness and mindfulness to the situation. This system works for our family. What do you find helpful in supporting your children or yourself when pursuing goals? #goals #systems #mindfulness #focus #executivecoaching #confidence #coaching #leadership #parenting

Love this. My daughter's teacher did this with the class, as in "A word for 2024". Seeing what the students chose was so powerful and demonstrated such insights (they are 10 year olds!)
