It is almost two years since Dr. Camino Kavanagh conceived the idea of organising a Subsea Cable Symposium at the historic Cable Station on Valentia Island, Co Kerry bringing together international participants from governments and industry, together with academia to discuss the past, the present and the future of security and resilience for subsea cables between 10th and 12 October 2024. It has been a pleasure to work with Dr Kavanagh, John Wrottesley, Nicole Starosielski and Leonard Hobbs in helping to realise this vision and to bring the “Valentia Island Subsea Cable Security and Resilience Symposium” to the place where the first transatlantic cable was laid in 1858.   Thank you to the Valentia Transatlantic Cable Foundation and, in particular Leonard Hobbs and Michael Lynne, who have agreed to host us at the Cable Station. This Symposium would not have been possible without the generous financial support of The Department of Defence, The Department of Foreign Affairs, IDA, Aqua Comms, the European Subsea Cables Association, Microsoft, Aurora, Philip Lee and Analysys Mason, and the involvement and participation of the International Cable Protection Committee (ICPC) – we really appreciate all your contributions.   Looking forward to welcoming all attendees at this fully subscribed event and to some lively discussion on this important topic.
