Great vibes today at #Gitex #ExpandNorthStar in Dubai. Here are some pro-tips for founders that I thought I’d share from my observations: 1. Be polite and well mannered to everyone. You have no idea who is who, and judging someone by the watch they wear or how they’re dressed before you pay respect will hurt you in the long run. 2. Stay energised and hydrated. Exhibition days are super tiring. Manage your food and water intake to prevent that 2pm crash. 3. If you see someone nervously hovering around your booth - approach and say hi! That’s literally what you’re there for and most likely if you’re friendly they will introduce themselves too. 4. Know your figures. Need I say more? 5. Be memorable. You’re there to build relationships! So do that, ask the odd questions, ask about people’s lives and careers - take an interest. 6. Lastly you’re not just there to get capital but also to build your brand profile. *P.s. It was an honor to be part of Gitex ASIA, representing Pakistan through my startup, QuantaByte and software company R Technologies. While we celebrate #Pakistan being named #TechDestinationOfTheYear, It’s also worth noting that many other promising Pakistani startups including mine have struggled due to Pakistan's weak IT infrastructure. Internet access is unreliable, and we lack key technologies like 5G, which is already available in countries like Dubai and India. Despite these challenges, we made our way to GITEX on our own, without significant support from the local industry or government. Sadly, many other promising startups couldn’t participate because of this lack of support. This recognition should be more than a symbolic win. If we want to see true innovation, The government and industry must stop fantasizing about success and need to move beyond flashy promotions and address the real issues and start taking concrete actions to support the people making it happen.
