When I was 18, I had an idea to run a nightclub party. A mentor of mine said to me: "Daniel, get the idea out of your head. Pick up the phone, talk to 3 or 4 people, and see how the idea lands". So I did. I called the general manager of the biggest nightclub in town, and he agreed to host the party. 👉 We promoted the party. 👉 We got thousands of people to show up. 👉 And we made $10,000 in one night! If you have a big idea, don't let it sit in your head for too long. Pick up the phone, talk to some people, make a few calls, and see if you can advance it. #businessidea #businesstips #businessadvice

In all the rush of daily life, when was the last time you sat down with someone you care about, not to solve a problem or handle logistics, but just to talk? The kind of talk that leaves you both smiling, feeling closer, maybe even seeing each other in a new light? 😊 I recently met Chris Burnett from that conversations movement over coffee at my favourite local cafe, Foodstory. We were introduced by a mutual friend over something we both really care about; creating spaces where people can have real, meaningful conversations with those who matter to them. 🤗 While The Wee Honesty Shed is taking a break from events (as I focus on TEDxAberdeen and growing baby no.2), I wanted to share what Chris is doing. His events have a simple but brilliant focus: helping you connect more deeply with people already in your life, the ones you might not get to have proper catch-ups with because life gets busy. If you'd like to spend some quality time with someone important to you this month, have a look at Chris's events below. It's a great chance to carve 90 minutes out of your day to have those conversations we often mean to have but never quite get around to. https://lnkd.in/e3Yt_6He #thatconversationevent #thatconversationmovement #conversationsthatmatter #aberdeenevents

Has your mic ever cut out mid-speech? It happened to me during a major event—a packed hall, buzzing with energy—and suddenly, silence. For a moment, I stood there, aware that every eye in the room was on me, waiting to see what I’d do next. Instead of freezing or panicking, I decided to roll with it. I stepped off the stage, walked into the audience, and turned it into a moment of connection. Moving table by table, I got everyone involved in a fun group activity, asking them to repeat after me in unison. The energy shifted. The silence turned into laughter and engagement. The tech team fixed the mic. And the audience? They loved the unexpected twist! That day, I learned a valuable lesson: A hiccup doesn’t mean failure—it’s an opportunity. Whether it’s a mic glitch, a power cut during an event, or an unexpected curveball at work, the key is to stay calm, improvise, and find ways to connect with people. The way we respond can often turn challenges into the most memorable moments. Have you had a “mic moment” in your life? How did you turn it around? I’d love to hear your story! #PublicSpeaking
