UPDATE: As of 7am, on Thursday, February 22, the Precautionary Boil Water Advisory issued by Missouri American Water for parts of St. Joseph has been lifted. Normal water use can now resume. Message from Missouri American Water: This is an urgent notification from Missouri American Water. A Precautionary Boil Water Advisory has been issued for your service area as of 5pm on February 20, 2024 due to a main break. This Advisory is expected to be in effect for approximately 48 hours. Any water to be used for drinking or cooking should be brought to a rolling boil for 3 minutes. Water is OK for bathing, washing, and other non-consumable uses. You will receive another notification should additional action be required or conditions change, or when normal water use may be resumed. If you are a landlord and water service is in your name, please inform your tenants so they are aware of this impact to their water service. A Water line break near Roby Missouri, has led to a boil water advisory for residents in the area. Public Water Supply District 1 of Texas County has issued the advisory. Residents are advised to boil water for three minutes before use and to follow these safety recommendations: Use only boiled water for drinking, diluting fruit juices, and all food preparations. Dispose of existing ice cubes and do not use ice from household icemakers. Make new ice with boiled water. Disinfect dishes and other food contact surfaces by immersing them for at least one minute in a solution of one teaspoon of unscented household bleach per gallon of water. Boiling water is not necessary for bathing, though children should be supervised to avoid swallowing any water, and individuals with cuts or severe rashes may wish to consult a physician before bathing. Salps - jelly with a nervous system, making them more related to humans than sea jellies. They form super long chains in the open ocean and filter feed smaller plankton like photosynthesising microalgae. An important #ecosystemservice they provide is the transportation of carbon to the deeper layers of the ocean where the carbon could then take hundreds to a thousand of years before reaching the atmosphere again in the Earth's #carboncycle. This is because their poop is heavy and dense, resulting in a high sinking rate and allowing carbon to reach deep waters quicker than it can be consumed by other organisms in shallower waters. Cool, huh?!
