A purple carrot (or Eastern carrot) would surprise most people today, but before the 17th century, almost all cultivated carrots were purple. There were also some yellow and white varieties, but orange carrots were a rare sight. 🥕🥕 The history of carrots is somewhat unclear, but they likely originated in ancient Persia, where purple and yellow varieties were cultivated. Three thousand years ago, these early carrots were valued for their sweet, earthy flavor and were commonly used as a medicinal herb. In the late 16th century, Dutch growers began experimenting to improve vegetable quality. They crossed mutant strains of purple carrots with yellow and white ones. After many generations, they developed the sweet orange variety we know today, which was more resistant to pests and had a better taste. Today, carrots are the second most consumed vegetable in the UK, after potatoes. #SealpacUK #Automation #Optimisation #FoodPackaging #FoodProcessing #Packaging #Traysealers #Thermoformers #Marketing #Spares #Sales #Training #Weighing #Inspection #Food #vegetables #carrots #FoodFacts #Friday

Did you know that grafting plants is a clever technique to get strong and healthy plants? 🌱 Grafting involves combining the stems of two different tomato plants: the rootstock and the graft. The rootstock comes from a strong, disease-resistant plant, while the graft comes from a tomato plant with the desired flavor or fruit. 🍅 This process combines the advantages of both plants: the robustness of the rootstock and the flavor and yield of the graft. ✅ As a result, you get tomato plants that are more disease-resistant, grow faster, and often produce more and tastier vegetables. #plants #grafting #tomatoplants #fruit #fruitcrops #horticulture #vegetables

The Scientific Difference Between Fruits and Vegetables Fruits: Develop from flowers and contain seeds used to grow new plants in the future. Examples: Apples, tomatoes, mangoes, peppers, cucumbers, watermelon, strawberries, etc. Vegetables: Develop from other parts of the plant, such as roots (carrots, radishes), stems (potatoes), leaves (spinach, cabbage), flowers (broccoli, cauliflower), or seeds (peas, beans). Vegetables may or may not contain seeds themselves. Examples: Carrots, peas, potatoes, onions, leafy greens, mushrooms, okra, eggplant, bottle gourd, etc. Important to Note: Some foods can be classified as fruits or vegetables depending on their use. For instance, tomatoes are scientifically fruits, but they are typically cooked as vegetables.#agriculture #horticulture #fruits #vegetables #agricultural

I often get asked, is aquaponics only for greens, or can we get fruits like strawberries and sweet limes growing too? The thing is, leafy greens like lettuce, spinach, and celery are absolute rockstars in aquaponics. Their shallow root systems love the nutrient-rich water. This results in faster growth and higher yields. Herbs like basil, mint, and cilantro also flourish in aquaponics. They're like the flavor boosters of the plant world, and with aquaponics, they grow like there's no tomorrow. And let's not forget about veggies like tomatoes, cucumbers, and peppers. While they might need a bit different setup to grow, they still thrive in aquaponics systems. With the perfect balance of nutrients and water, they produce juicy, flavorful fruits that'll have you coming back for more. And, of course organic for sure. So, whether you're a salad lover, a herb enthusiast, or a veggie aficionado, aquaponics has got you covered. The strawberries you see in the image are grown in our farm through aquaponics :D #aquaponics #precisionfarming #futureofagriculture

Here’s a refreshing recipe to enjoy these pears in a new light: Sugar-Soaked Pears. Harvesting Giant White Pears: Timing: Harvest Giant White Pears in late summer when they are fully mature but still firm. They should have a creamy white to pale green skin. Picking: Gently twist the pears from the tree, avoiding damage to the fruit or the tree. Handle with care as these pears are delicate. Post-Harvest: Store harvested pears in a cool, dry place. Allow them to ripen at room temperature if they’re still too firm. Refreshing Summer Sugar-Soaked Pear Recipe Ingredients: 4 Price 1 cup granulated sugar 2 cups water 1 lemon (juiced) 1 tsp vanilla extract Fresh mint leaves (for garnish, optional) Instructions: Prepare the Pears: Peel the pears, leaving the stems intact. Core the pears carefully, making sure to remove any seeds. **But In a medium saucepan, combine sugar and water. Heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the sugar is fully dissolved. Once dissolved, remove from heat and let the syrup cool slightly. Flavor the Syrup: Tsi Soak the Pears: Place the peeled and cored pears in a large bowl or jar. Pour the warm syrup over the pears, ensuring they are fully submerged. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight for the best flavor. Serve: Remove the pears from the syrup and place them on a serving plate. Garnish with fresh mint leaves if desired. Serve chilled, perfect for a refreshing summer treat. Tips: For added flavor, you can infuse the syrup with spices like cinnamon or cloves. Try serving the pears with a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a decadent dessert.
