Is #prepping a form of #activism? ✊🤔 Not at first sight, perhaps, and certainly not in the conventional sense. But if we look twice, activist dynamics begin to emerge. Based on a reading of popular #prepper #literature, Erik and I argue that prepping is most accurately characterized as a type of ‘implicit activism’ that may be focused on individual survival, but which could easily have #performative effects on the current state of affairs. However, since prepping is what we call a ‘danger-based’ activity, it frees the prepper from the type of #responsibility that comes with conventional activism. 🌟 Embracing Justice, Compassion, and Mercy in our Daily Interactions 🌟 In a world that often feels chaotic and divided, it is more important than ever to embody values of justice, compassion, and mercy in our interactions with others. Living justly means treating everyone with fairness, respect, and equality, regardless of their background, beliefs, or circumstances. It means standing up for what is right and speaking out against injustice and inequality. By fostering a culture of justice in our communities and workplaces, we can create a more inclusive and equitable world for all. Showing compassion involves empathizing with others, understanding their struggles, and offering support and kindness when they need it most. It means putting ourselves in someone else's shoes and extending a helping hand without judgment or hesitation. Compassion has the power to heal wounds, mend relationships, and build bridges between people from different walks of life. Practicing mercy means forgiving others for their mistakes, shortcomings, and wrongdoings. It means choosing understanding and reconciliation over resentment and retaliation. By showing mercy to those who have wronged us, we not only free ourselves from the burden of anger and bitterness but also pave the way for healing and growth for all parties involved. As we navigate the complexities of life and work, let us remember to prioritize justice, compassion, and mercy in our interactions with others. Let us strive to be a beacon of light in a world that can sometimes feel dark and uncertain. Together, we can build a more just, compassionate, and merciful society where everyone has the opportunity to thrive and succeed. #Justice #Compassion #Mercy #Inclusion #Equality #Empathy #Community #Leadership #TogetherWeCan #MakeADifference Let's continue to spread positivity and kindness in everything we do. 🌟💫 Share your thoughts and experiences on how you embrace these values in your daily life!

We need to go beyond simply telling people what to move away from and start showing them where we should go. Since the goal of social movements is not to get everyone to think alike but to get everyone who thinks differently to fight for the same cause. We need to acknowledge that an organized minority will always defeat a disorganized majority. It’s time to organize - We need to act like the cavalry is not coming. #Leadership #SocialChange #Community #Organize #Activism #Collaboration #Teamwork #Inspiration #SocialMovements #ChangeMakers

Oye, mira. There is this wild narrative going around where certain people believe that by NOT talking about racism, racism will go away. Well folks, I'm here to tell you that this strategy is not only dismissive, it is fallacy spawned by white fragility in an effort to avoid having to deal with ugly truths. I get it! Having any crucial conversations about racism, or systemic racism means you have to admit or come face to face with realities that you may not be ready to confront. Well, if you catch yourself saying the following phrases, this is your friendly reminder to not use these offensive and dismissive statements when you find yourself in conversations about race. If you find this post makes you feel some type of way, I ask that before you come at me with any anger, sit with your feelings and ask yourself, why does this post make me so angry or uncomfortable. Save this guide. Share it. Education is elevation. Deconstructing oppressive systems is not only a priority, it's the key driver towards our evolution as a species. #oyemira #therealchristianortiz #racism #whitesupremacy #systemicracism #linkedincommunity #equality #equity #activist #techactivist

💭 Embracing Compassion Over Rejection 💭 When people mess up, society teaches us to turn our backs, to push them away. But history and cultural wisdom, especially from Indigenous and communities of color, show us another way. It’s when people stumble that they need support the most. That’s when we need to bring them in — not push them out. Imagine if we met mistakes with compassion instead of rejection. What if, instead of casting people aside, we worked to lift them up and help them grow? Embracing people at their lowest, and showing up with love and accountability — that’s how we build a stronger, more inclusive society. It’s time to rethink what it means to truly support one another. #CompassionOverRejection #ForgivenessFirst #BuildCommunity #EmbraceMistakes #SRVDLEMONS #Inclusivity #RestorativeJustice #HumanityFirst

"Show people that we know how to make change happen. It will make people more likely to do those same things again in the future." Highlighting the wins and successes doesn't mean losing sight of the work (often huge) that still needs to be done. This approach to storytelling is almost like the, "Malayo pa, pero malayo na." of Filipino #GenZ, recognizing the wins throughout the journey. #Devcom #Communication #Storytelling #HopeBasedCommunications
When we show that we’ve got something done and how we made that change happen, that ‘how’ will help get more change done. We need these stories to show that #democracy, #socialchange, and #civilsociety work. We at hope-based comms have seen that some social change activists find it hard to accept compliments and are raised to be humble. We find it hard to talk about success. We might see a new policy pass that we’ve been working for and our first resort is to talk about how much work still needs to be done. Though we’re fully aware of this as activists, our audiences need to know that these small wins are happening and are possible every step of the way. In personal psychology, we’re constantly told that if we recognize our strengths, if we express gratitude and express what goes well, we’re more likely to work towards them moving forward. As activists, it’s so important to recognize when we win, when we succeed, and when we get things done. For our audiences, if they’re able to recognize what we’ve achieved and how we achieved it, they’re more likely to join important causes. On the flipside, for activists, when we recognize we’ve achieved something together and how we achieved it, we’re more likely to keep working towards the change we want to see. Celebrating our wins makes more change more likely. We have permission to be joyful in both our wins and the work that we do. #socialchange #socialgood #activism #activists #cause #causes #hopebasedcommunication #communication #developmentcommunication

Not All Superheroes Wear Capes We recently came across Nova Reid’s wonderful TED Talk https://lnkd.in/d8erEqNj Drawing from her experiences as an anti-racism activist, Nova encourages us to step into uncomfortable conversations about race and inequality. She emphasizes that true change begins by unlearning ingrained biases and being courageous enough to challenge the status quo. Nova’s talk is a reminder that you don't need a cape to be a hero—just the willingness to act, reflect, and stand up for what's right. This resonates deeply with the work we’re doing at Witty, where our mission is to help organizations create more inclusive environments. Who are your superheroes–with or without cape–in anti-racism? #DiversityEquityInclusion #AntiRacism #Inequality
