What are the applications of quantitative phase imaging in the biothermodynamics of cell growth?    In this webinar hosted by GDR Imabio, Václav Bočan, a PhD student in the laboratory of Jonathan Rodenfels at the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics Dresden, presented his research on different dynamics of cell growth. Anthony Zador on Brain Wiring through the Genomic Bottleneck. Anthony is the Alle Davis Harris Professor of Biology and former Chair of Neuroscience at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory. Animals are born with highly structured brain connectivity, which equips them with the ability to function well soon after birth with little or no experience. Because the wiring diagram is far too complex to be specified explicitly in the genome, it must be compressed through a “genomic bottleneck”. In this seminar, Anthony discusses theoretical and experimental results regarding the nature of the rules governing the genomic bottleneck and how high-throughput molecular connectomics based on new sequencing technologies can help uncover these rules. Ischemic stroke, a primary contributor to mortality and disability, arises from the obstruction of blood flow to a section of the brain. In this paper, researchers used a mouse model of ischemic stroke to study the molecular changes at the site of injury and the surrounding tissue. By integrating 10x Genomics Visium spatial data with scRNAseq data, this study attained an extraordinary degree of spatial molecular granularity. The innovative synthesis of these data types unveiled new perspectives, culminating in the recognition of Lgals9 as a potential therapeutic target for ischemic stroke. Today we celebrate the discovery of the DNA double helix in 1953 and the completion of the Human Genome Project in 2003. These discoveries are the basis for all the cutting-edge genomics research carried out today 🧬. Today is #DNADay 🔬Within every cell in our bodies, two metres of DNA are carefully folded into a structure smaller than the width of a human hair. DNA is the molecule that defines many of our traits as well as our diseases.
