📖 Learn more about the Director and Boss, Ian Biles ⚓
⚓Meet the team 🛟 To kick things off, meet the Founder and Managing Director of Maritime Services Group, Maritime International Services, Maritime Training Academy, The Training Academy and Maritime Film, Ian Biles. Get to know Ian better with a series of questions we asked him. Here's what he had to say: ❓Tell us a little bit about your career path. “I started sailing with my father at the age of 12 and loved it. As a result, I went to sea at 18 in the Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA), qualifying as a Master Mariner. I kept sailing anytime I had leave and then also qualified as an Ocean Yacht Master. I moved on from the RFA to do a number of different jobs building my experience (offshore supply, fishing, salvage, dredging, ferries, sail training) and ended up ashore with Shell International Marine. I decided to go back to University with Shell and obtained a Batchelor’s in Engineering in Ship Science (Naval Architecture). I then spent some time in Japan, building LNG gas ships but I was then made redundant and decided to start my own company." ❓What do you love most about what you do? “I love the variety and the challenge” ❓Tell us a surprising or a fun fact about you. “I was college trampoline champion, which is why both my knees are messed up!” ❓And finally, what is the best advice you’ve ever received? “When you think you know what is going on, you have probably overlooked something!” #MeetTheTeam #IanBiles #MaritimeServicesGroup #MaritimeIndustry #MaritimeLife

🌊 Navigating Challenges: Transforming Problems into Opportunities in the Maritime Sector 🌊 🚢 Shift Your Mindset: Instead of viewing problems as obstacles, consider them as opportunities waiting to be explored. In the maritime industry, this shift in perspective can lead to innovative solutions and growth. 🌐 The Maritime Landscape: Our beloved 🇳🇬 Nigeria boasts a vital maritime sector—one that significantly impacts both our nation and the global community. Yet, challenges persist, especially for aspiring sailors and marine professionals. 🎓 Graduates’ Dilemma: Every year, marine engineering and naval architecture graduates emerge from various institutions, eager to embark on sailing careers. However, they often overlook the costs associated with obtaining essential documents (which eventually expire). Moreover, the scarcity of viable shipping companies offering cadet positions compounds the challenge. 🌟 A Beacon of Hope: I’ve taken the initiative, rallying industry experts, agencies, and professional bodies. Together, we’re hosting an online meeting—a platform where seasoned professionals from diverse maritime fields (marine survey, ship design, ROV operations, policy-making) share their journeys. They’ll offer clarity, actionable steps, and hope, even amidst adversity. 🌱 Empowering the Next Generation: Collaborating with the President of National Association of Maritime Students Moses Olakunle , we aim to broaden horizons. Students from various institutions will discover alternative career paths within the maritime realm. It’s time to explore beyond the traditional sailor’s route! 🤝 Join the Voyage: I invite collaboration from like-minded individuals. Let’s move beyond discussions and equip aspiring professionals with hands-on skills and mentorship. Together, we’ll chart a course toward a thriving maritime future. 🔗 Connect with me: If you’re passionate about maritime excellence, reach out! Let’s sail toward brighter shores. ⚓ #maritime #sailor #marine #NIMASA

Coming Soon: #InBuyer Naval Sector 🛳 Italy has always been a country of maritime vocation. Due to its strategic position at the center of the Mediterranean Sea, thanks to the 7,600 km of coastline, and a great tradition of sailors, merchants, and explorers, Italy is deeply linked to the sea. Today, it is the 3rd largest naval economy in Europe, worth 10% of Italian GDP! Maritime transportation and shipbuilding – from pleasure boats to vessels - are the most important segments. ⚓️ For this reason, Danitacom and Promos Italia are organizing an individual business trip offered to a small group of Danish operators interested in meeting Italian companies in the naval sector, from all kinds of shipbuilding companies to mechanical subcontractors, from component producers to interior vessel design enterprises. The Danish buyers invited to participate in this business trip can select their counterparts and meet them in #Genova and #Milano, on the most suitable days they prefer in the month of #November. ⚓️ Are you a shipyard, distributor, or agent operating in the Danish sea economy? InBuyer Naval Sector offers you the possibility to create new connections and partnerships in Italy, while benefits of a travel package and a personalized agenda. To participate, you can contact our Project Coordinator, Sara E. Saltari Bertelsen. #DanitacomInvites #Internationalization #SeaEconomy #NavalSector

Working offshore comes with alot of different challenges, though this challenges tends to make us stronger you'll be amazed what the human mind is capable of doing,You'll be surprised of the unknown skill set you possess that comes to life under distress. Seafaring as been tagged one of the loneliest job is the world with seamen spending most of their prime onboard a ship at sea. Most often seafarers do this for the passion while most people do it for the money involved, but one this is always certain if you don't love the job you can't survive. So I tell most professionals that comes my way" it's easier to grow doing what you love the most, when people are finding it hard to level up;it will just be another phase You'll have to scale through for someone who has passion for the job ". Love what you do and travel the world 🌎 while doing it ! #sailor #ships #sailing #ships #safely #Marine #maritime
