🌎 Greenland: Trump's 51st State or Just Bold Bluster? 🌍 The question is on the table again: Is Donald Trump serious about buying Greenland, or is it all a political spectacle? https://lnkd.in/e9s5ngpd His bold statement on Truth Social, declaring Greenland an "absolute necessity" for U.S. national security, has reignited debates about Arctic dominance, rare earth resources, and geopolitics. 🛡️💎 Could Greenland’s untapped natural wealth and strategic Arctic position make this move worth the cultural, economic, and diplomatic challenges? Or is this another audacious headline that will fade into history? While history shows U.S. interest in Greenland (remember 1946?), the hurdles—self-determination, massive integration costs, and resistance from Denmark—make the idea more complex than it appears. 🤔 🔗 Dive deeper into this polarizing topic: Greenland’s resources, Arctic strategies, and the clash between sovereignty and superpower ambitions. What’s your take: a calculated strategy or grandstanding? The Wall Street Journal "pursues exclusive stories, with the goal of breaking all important scoops". Even if it involves having to drive snowmobiles, dodging avalanches and braving the cold in the freezing Arctic…! The result: this captivating video report on our recent field research in Svalbard, conducted in collaboration with Delft University of Technology and The University Centre in Svalbard. While the decline of Arctic sea ice might not be on your mind every day, it’s an issue that affects us all. As they say at WSJ, “It’s Your Business.” 📽️ Watch the video and discover why this matters: https://lnkd.in/ek8WNpay Thanks Eve Hartley and Max Thurlow for going above and beyond to make the journey to Svalbard and report on the work of our team comprising of Aleksey Shestov, Hayo Hendrikse, Tim C. Canada-U.S. Arctic Cooperation It’s encouraging to witness Canada and the United States, long-standing allies and close friends, taking a significant step forward in Arctic collaboration with the creation of a joint task force to negotiate the Beaufort Sea boundary. In a rapidly changing Arctic landscape marked by new challenges and strategic competition, this collaborative effort exemplifies how democracies and allies can address complex local and global issues. By working jointly to clarify maritime boundaries and engaging meaningfully with Indigenous partners, Canada and the U.S. are establishing precedents for responsible conservation and sustainable use of Arctic resources. This is a shining example of what is possible when friends and allies unite to promote, protect, and defend shared values and environments. Let’s hope this inspires other democracies and their allies around the world to pursue similar collaborative approaches to global challenges. #ArcticCooperation #CanadaUSRelations #AlliesInAction #SustainableFuture https://lnkd.in/eCE2ZDsK

Imagine a future Arctic that is vibrant in its ecosystems, culture and economy? There was a lot of talk about a future vision for the Arctic at the recent Arctic Ecounters Sympoisum in Anchorage https://lnkd.in/d84CyUQa. The future is not written, we have the power to shape the future we want and dont have to accept a version others may want to impose. Articulating those visions is key - I wrote down mine here https://lnkd.in/dQFFRdT7 (pages 229-239).
